Formerly conjoined twin Carter Mirabal, who underwent a 12-hour separation surgery from his brother Conner on May 7, 2015, was discharged from Wolfson Children’s Hospital almost a year to the day on Friday, May 6, 2016.
Born at UF Health Jacksonville, Carter and Conner were transferred to Wolfson Children’s Hospital within hours of their birth for emergency surgery by Nemours Children’s Specialty Care, Jacksonville, pediatric surgeons; these surgeons also performed their second and final separation surgeries.
Conner went home this past January, while his twin brother Carter received additional medical and surgical care at Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
On Saturday, May 7, the family came back to the hospital to celebrate the one year anniversary of the boys' separation with Dr. Dan Robie, one of their pediatric surgeons, as well as nurses and staff from Wolfson Children's hospital.
Carter and Conner are now home with their family and doing well.
