I'm from Montreal and I've been to our F1 race twelve times! How great it is being less than two hours away from the circuit Gilles Villeneuve to see motor racings top form, it's so prestigious!

I was there aged 12...this was the golden era,,,sound smell everything..I would rather watch these testing than watch a modern gp..thanks Barry

You have beautifully captured the smokey exhaust from the toluene rich fuel - happily the pungent smell and eye watering effect are not reproduced. What I most remember, and especially in qualifying, was the tremendous bang from Rosberg's Honda on the upchange at the bottom of Paddock Hill bend.

That BMW M12/13 4 cylinder engine sounds is orgasm goodness me and boost pressure in qualifying @5 bar over 900kw at 11000rpm with H-Shifter gear and clutch no traction control is absolutely madness!!! The V6 turbo engine wow love that engine sounds also sounds better then F1 cars V6 of today

Ahh Happy Memories.... In 85 I was based at Snetterton, working for Rushen Green Racing, Senna`s old Formula Ford Team. So we used to go to the pits when Lotus came to test and I had a few chats with Ayrton, a wonderful Man.. I also saw Keke (in the Williams) going through the old Russell S`es flat in 5th!!!! Amazing.. he then hit the barriers on the way into the pits!!! Thanks Barry, Stay safe and keep posting :-)))

Love that even on the grain film you could use yous can see the plumes of toluene coming from the exhausts!

Even thought the cars are about 14 seconds slower than 2022s, there is something special in the old turbo era that just gets to you.

There will never be another era in F1 like the eighties. Mega powerful and mega noisy. Makes todays F1 engines sound like a gnats fart ! The eighties also produced Group B and Group C. That BMW engine kicked out some power. These cars must have been so difficult to drive. Big respect to all 1980's drivers

Was this a test session or practice for the European GP? Love these cars! Manual gearboxes, they squirm around on turn in, the engines sound like racing engines, even though they’re turbocharged. Fantastic.

Sorry it's taken me so long to clock this. Glorious stuff from the moment Formula One (as it was called) was gripping me as a teenager. Long since lost interest, I'm afraid....
