Hi Tara. I just want to say what you said about some people having more oil because they keep stripping their skin is 100% accurate! I am currently an esthetics student and the skin type people think they have vs what they actually have can be totally different based on the products they use on their skin. That is one of the very first things we learned in school. Through your own research you are so knowledgeable, I am learning so much watching you and I think you would make an AMAZING esthetician!

I’ve learned a lot in this series, Tara, thank you! Been making my own skincare for years but I’ve been free styling too much and need to get my math down. I have managed to cure my cystic acne in the last two years by using only my own face oils and ditching commercial creams & lotions. I’m in my mid 40s so need to focus more on wrinkles moving forward so I’m starting to explore more additives like extracts. 🤞🏻

No you can not add hyaluronic acid as hyaluronic is water soluble. So it has to be hydrated in water not oil.
@yaratarek4882

yes but what if I made it as a two-phases serum, using an emulsifier, as an advanced recipe? need your advice please
@TaraLeee
@TaraLeee 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you hydrated the hyaluronic acid in water and used a solubilizer or emulsifier to add in oils you can do that. But then it wouldn’t be a facial oil it would be considered a face serum. You could use sepimax zen to help gel it to create a serum like texture and the sepimax zen also serves as an emulsifier so you can add in about 20% oils.

May you please do a video on formulating hair oils? And do you know where to buy the best fragrance oil for hair oil? I watched your body oil formulating video and the formulating series. I’m just wanting to confirm, can the body oil video be used as an example to make hair oil?
@TaraLeee

I’ve never looked into making a hair oil. It would probably be pretty difficult too, as i don’t have the hair type to use hair oil. So I’m not sure how I would test it. I’ll see what I can do. I purchase my fragrance oils from bulkapothecary.com I’m not sure if a body oil would be good for the hair as it is a bit to greasy for the hair. But also, I don’t have any experience making hair oils, so I really don’t know for sure. I’m not a person who uses hair oils so I have about zero experience with that. So sorry!

one more question please, can I mix sodium hyaluronate with different molar masses to be sure of its penetration into the skin's different levels?
@TaraLeee
@TaraLeee 4 жыл бұрын
Hyaluronic acid can be bought in different molecular weights. There is no way you can change the molecular weight with formulating. So if you are wanting a hyaluronic acid with the best penetration you want to buy a hyaluronic acid with a low molecular weight. The lower the molecular weight the better penetration. The higher the molecular weight the more viscous it will make your product

TaraLee No problem. I understand you’re busy. My question was how do I mix a bha with a cleansing oil along with an emollient and it not have a drying effect on the skin? I made a pre cleansing oil, put salicylic-acid in it for oily/acne prone skin with an emollient, but it dried out my skin.
@TaraLeee
@TaraLeee 4 жыл бұрын
I've never worked with any BHA's but this is what I found on the solubility of salicylic acid. Water: about 0.2% at 20oC, about 1.7% at 75oC (by adding about 5% of sodium phosphate or another neutral salt, solubility of salicylic acid in water is increased to about 1.8%) Alcohol (ethanol): about 14% in pure ethanol, about 0.5% in 20% ethanol Propylene glycol: about 3-6% Glycerin: about 1.6% Octyldodecanol: about 15-20% So from the looks of this it doesn't look like salicylic acid is even soluble in oils. So if you wanted to incorporate it with oils you would first have to solubilize the salicylic acid in water, alcohol, propylene glycol, glycerin or octyldodecanol first. Then emulsify it with some oils. I found my information on salicylic acid here - www.makingcosmetics.com/Salicylic-Acid-USP_p_51.html There is also a liquid version of salicylic acid that is a 40% dilution. You could use this instead. It apparently is suppose to be less irritating. This one is water soluble - www.makingcosmetics.com/Salicylic-Acid-Solution_p_1123.html
@corihardy22
@corihardy22 4 жыл бұрын
TaraLee Thanks!!!! How would I mix the liquid version of the Salicylic acid into the oil? Also could you explain what 20oC is?
@TaraLeee
@TaraLeee 4 жыл бұрын
sorry, 20oC is 20 degrees celsius. which is 68 degrees farenheit. You can't make a facial oil with salicylic acid. You would need to make a facial serum. & if you are wanting to incorporate oils into that facial serum it would be an oil in water emulsion. There are a couple different ways you could incorporate the oil into a facial serum. First begin by dissolving the salicylic acid in whatever solvent you choose. Then you could use equal parts oil and polysorbate 80 to blend the salicylic acid mixture and oil together. This wouldn't be a thick serum, it would have a very thin consistency. The consistency of water. Another way you could make a facial serum with oils is; first make your salicylic acid mixture, then you add in the oils. Next sprinkle 1% sepimax zen over top of the formulation. Let it sit for 8 hours and then you will have a gelled serum. Make sure not to use over 20% oil when using sepimax zen because that is the max amount of oils it can emulsify. There are many other ways you could incorporate oils into a serum, but those are some. Hope this helps. Also be sure you are always adjusting the ph of the end product. Salicylic acid dramatically drops the ph of a product to around 1 or 2. Which could of been the cause of the irritation you spoke about before. Make sure you are using a ph buffer to raise the ph to between 3.5 - 4. Here are links to some of my videos that may help you out. How to raise and lower ph - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLOGmpefmdubpYk.html How to measure ph - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bN9pisl9r7fIiX0.html

I had Invisalign. Since I didn’t have much other teeth issues other than a few other gaps and a slight overbite, it only took about 7 months to close. It was a very smooth process for me. It was a bit painful, but so worth it. I’m very happy and more confident with my new smile. As long as you make sure to wear them for 22 hours a day the process will go very smoothly. It’s annoying having to wear them all the time and it makes it hard to go to events and festivals and places like that, cause you can’t really eat whenever you want. You have to brush your teeth every time after you eat before you put back in your Invisalign. A lot of people end up neglecting to wear them for 22 hours a day and that is when there may be issues.
