57:26 When Mama Gump is talking about “if God wanted everyone to be the same he’d give everyone braces on their legs”, it’s like the foundation of why Forrest is never angry with God about any of his situations in life because he understands that in life, “sometimes shit happens”. From his mother’s quote, Forrest is taught to understand that never in life are you promised and should never expect equal opportunities in life, but you are promised an equal opportunity at life, by just being born. What you do with that opportunity at just having a life is what matters. Some people are just meant to be different. It’s a line that keeps Forrest from being bitter with God about his current and future situations, as a boy wearing leg braces and later in life, by just accepting that his path in life was going to be different.

1:18:02 Bill's wrong, Bubba's tombstone says he died in June, 1967. Forrest says he spent five years in college. So he could've started college in 1961, is on Alabama's championship team in 1962, graduate, enlist, track down Jenny, and get deployed to Vietnam all in 1966, is in Vietnam until gets wounded in June, 1967, then rotates back to America, and receives the Medal Of Honor in 1968.

So much a podcast by Gen X. Lots of chocolates in the sixties did not come with a pictorial description of the product. Lyndon Johnson would definitely have shown his scar too. Forrest is not stupid, just lower IQ! Jogging was so huge in the early 70’s that someone doing that would not be inconceivable. Ping pong in the army or eight years…after Vietnam the military would keep anybody they could. Staff would get bonuses for soldiers who reupped. Again, I love this podcast, but the whole “ we don’t really know the 60’s” is kind of obvious. Yes I’m a boomer, late boomer so grew up in the 60-78 period.

Even though I enjoyed Pulp Fiction far more than Forrest Gump at the time they both came out, I think over the decades since Gump has aged much than Pulp. The circular story telling from Pulp is still innovative, and there are segments of the the film that are still fun, but I feel that the dialogue seems clunky and out of date, and the performances of different actors are quite uneven. Gump hits more emotional notes than Pulp, and you end up liking Hank's character far better as a human being than any of the obviously far-stretched characters in Pulp, who basically don't exist in real life. In the end, I just enjoyed Gump far more than Pulp.
