I've decided to break out my 1973 Telecaster Deluxe, my uncle Geno Burbank willed me.
I inherited all his gear when he passed away. and I've been apprehensive to take it out of the house. But it deserves to be appreciated. He was my hero. he was one of the best guitarists in the LA scene in the 60s. If you heard my uncle and Clarence White, you may not know who was playing. they sounded so similar.
The body is not original, it's a reissue body. The original body is in storage and being restored. But I wanted to put my MSP guitar systems, pedal Bender system on a guitar so I could take it to guitar shows. And people could see this rarity. This Bender system is so incredibly rare. I only know of five in the United States. Arlen Roth has two of them and I have two of them. I saw somebody else that had one of the bridges but not the pedal part.
MacKenzie only made a few of these as far as I know. in 1997-1998. If you watch the entire video you'll get a bit more information toward the end.
if you're a bender nerd like me, this is one of the rarest bender systems ever made. And I never thought I would see one, ever... let alone have one for my collection.
I'm sure I have the most extensive bender collection in the United States, and possibly the world.
I've invented a few on my own designs. But I also regularly play other designs.
I believe all benders are cool. some work better than others. which is why as a player, I started making them myself, and for my fellow Nashville guitarists. Us road dogs need lightweight, reliable benders. and mine are on tour with dang near all the new artists. Blake Shelton, Craig Morgan, Swon Brothers, Trent Willmon, Lee Brice, Jerrod Neimann, Wynona Judd, Ann Wilson from Heart, Mark Slaughter... yep, even the Metal Guitars use Benders!
There is a lot of misinformation in the world so do you're research.
But one thing for certain. Nobody has the crazy bender collection I have.
I've been playing benders since I was a kid. and have had a Parsons White, a Glaser, and a Hipshot for 30 plus years. If you watched my previous video, you know I have the original Palm Pedal guitar. the 1969 Tele Boomer Castleman heavily modded.
I've also restored, or rather rebuilt Jim Fish' "Ghostcaster" his 1960 Custom Telecaster he made his own bender for in 1976. it's the guitar on all the Byron Berline Band records. and the Henry Paul Band.
I've also put the bender in Jerry Adams 1954 Telecaster. I didn't want to but he wouldn't take no for an answer. So I've done a lot of benders over my lifetime.
