I actually started making drafts for a solo Christine vid and a triangle with T’Pring earlier this week but like… I got very one-track focused after 2x05 so those are coming later, I guess. :D I LOVE T’Pring, but Spapel are absolutely killing me.
That aside, that episode was almost everything I wanted since S2 started, we got Spock interacting with his mom, we got Spock actually being happy and wholeheartedly smiling, we got him finally facing what happened in 2x01. The only thing I really wanted that we didn’t get was Amanda meeting Christine, but hey, I’ll settle for that amazing Spapel kiss instead.

Side note: solo Christine vid is coming next week. I'm so happy with how the draft came along and I think it's got one of the best song choices I've ever made for a vid. :) Gonna be away until earlier next week, but once I get back I'm finishing it, so stay tuned I guess.

Fantastic Star Trek show/series! One of the best. 💚
@montymason1647
@montymason1647 Жыл бұрын
Classic Star Trek canon be damned. THIS love between Spock and Nurse Chapel is now literally canon. And it really doesn't replace, overthrow, overshadow at all the original series' timelines and arc. This canon enriches, dare one say it, "humanizes," and further ennobles the original. Whereas the original series -- due to NBC network executives (all men, all White, the usual suspects) interfered with Roddenberry's "to-boldly-go," Boomer "wokeness," demanding script and even wardrobe changes to emphasize women's "role" of subordinated sex objects, Strange New Worlds recovers and restores Roddenberry's profoundly "woke" and original vision. In the 1960s show, the series punished the original Nurse Chapel for being a single, independent, and professional woman: she became the perennial "spinster," pining pathetically after a man who wouldn't give her the star date time of day. The message was clear, at least from NBC's sausage factory boys' club: become a professional, independent, accomplished woman, and you are condemned to spinsterhood. BUT HERE, Nurse Chapel is vibrant, brilliant, beautiful, unabashedly sexual (strongly hinted as fluid in her tastes), resourceful, and witty. She is also intellectually sophisticated, culturally complex, and quirky as she is ambitious. She is unashamedly, emotionally wounded and openly wary. But she is also brave, open to challenge, and deeply compassionate. She is impossibly beautiful and yet poignantly nerdy. She is the perfect jewel in her flaws, and in her flaws are the jewels of her perfection. In essence, today's Nurse Chapel is a series of seemingly irreconcilable contradictions that actually mirror Spock's. This makes the "interracial" allegory of their pairing even more powerful, and far more poignant now, than anything the the original series' executives rejected out of hand in this obvious allegorical arc (Roddenberry would put the original Star Trek and his career on the line by depicting the first actual interracial kiss on American network television, just BEFORE the SCOTUS ruled that interracial marriage was a legal right in America). For, in this new Star Trek timeline, it is precisely BOTH Spock's and Nurse Chapel's seeming and real individual contradictions that make the Vulcan and human, or more appropriately, the biracial Vulcan-human and human Chapel, so compelling, so rivetingly whole as individual persons, and so utterly, strikingly beautiful -- and deeply moving-- as a couple. And these two actors: they just burn and glow with Spock's and Christine's otherworldly chemistry. That chemistry! It's startlingly logical, it's breathlessly erotic, it's tenderly compassionate, it's luminously spiritual, and G*d-damn, it's flesh-and-blood hot. How can these two NOT be canon in both their timeline AND in the classic Star Trek one? They ARE Roddenberry's vision of One World, sent aloft across the stars and made real and vital and essential in that most celestial of things: LOVE. That kiss of Spock and Nurse Chappell? CANON in every possible way. "Make it so!"

Roddenberry had affairs will ALL of his secretaries, Majel, Nichelle and who know who else? He was no progressive with women. I think he just said stuff to make the audience like the show, but, in truth the ACTRESSES wanted the mini skirts and then whined to the fans about sexism. They played a double game.
@montymason1647
@montymason1647 Жыл бұрын
@@kareno7848 : That Roddenberry was a hypocrite is hardly news; all White male "progressives" are and always have been no less racist, sexist than the Trumpers when it came to sharing, let alone conceding, their myriad monopolies of power that neither justice nor morality ever accorded them. Your attempted rebuke is thus both moot as it is hoary on that account. But Roddenberry's White male entitlement and hypocrisy does not change the irrefutably "progressive" allegorical vision of his: the multiracial, post-Capitalist union of cultures of the Federation is really his vision of an America, if not the entire world. If his personal conduct invalidates that allegory, then by the same standards, the entire project of the "democratic" United States -- "fathered" by racist, slaveholding, slave-raping, ethnic-cleansing génocidiarist, One Percenters of THEIR day far, far worse than the run-of-the-mill White male hypocrite Roddenberry--would be forever irredeemably illegitimate. And thus, every single White male having enjoyed unearned privileges THAT White racial/gendered dictatorship accorded them would be bound morally and ethically to give up en toto said legacies of privilege. But that will not ever happen, so we can dismiss and dispense with the tone and tenor of arguments as unserious and unconsidered, to put it charitably. Speaking of contempt, you resort to outright lying and wholesale fabrication regarding the visual and narrative subjugation of TOS's women: the popular culture historical record -- Roddenberry's own recollections, Desilu Productions contemporary and post-TOS accounts, and popular culture historians' research on TOS ALL refute your bizarre attempt to exculpate NBC's all White male sausage factory management's interferences, "recommendations," and outright demands to reign in Roddenberry's liberated starship women; it was they, the all White boys' club of NBC sausage factory management, and NOT the women of TOS, who stripped Star Trek's women in dress and power. Read this well, @kareno7848, I am an Ivy League-educated historical researcher, a Boomer who lived through the era of the TOS; Roddenberry was an alum of my alma mater, Columbia University. While I was never a Trekkie and have enjoyed the latter productions and iterations of the Star Trek universe far more than the TOS, my academic background, my age, and my actuql career access me to far more trustworthy grasp of TOW lore and fact -- and the broader social, political , cultural contexts therein-- than you demonstrate. It does not help your cause that all too clearly, you know too little and lie too easily to step up to me on, well, anything. For future reference, keep in mind this irrefutable fact: while some do not suffer fools gladly, I, on the other hand, gladly make fools suffer. Comprenez-vous?

They are soooo good together. I loved every second of that episode. Epic. I also loved the scene with Spock and Sam Kirk "I will break you!" That made me laugh so much. Now imagine Sam is somewhat of a womanizer, like his brother, and he starts flirting with Christine throughout the rest of the season. That could be hilarious.

@Baiker92 for the most part, yes. Sure some terminology might be lost on you and why Pike tried to leave might be a bit confusing at first, but it will stop being confusing eventually. Plus imho I think the show might be way more fun without the knowledge of the original show, that way you don't nitpick things because you don't have those older versions of the characters to compare them to in your mind. :)

In terms of timelines, we know that Spock ends up with Uhura in the Kelvin (JJ Abrams) universe, but what about other universes / timelines? Also I take solace in the fact that just by Pike having knowledge of future events could mean that destinies have already been altered.

@@GAZArts Spoilers for TOS and the further course of Strange New Worlds: Chapel will leave the Enterprise and meet her fiancé Dr. Roger Korby at the Vulcan Science Academy (TOS: What are little girls made of?) He dies in this episode, but Spock does not return Chapel's feelings for him in the rest of the series In Amok Time, Spock meets T'Pring again for the first time due to his Pon Farr, their engagement was not resumed Towards the end of the episode T'Pring marries the Vulcan Stonn and both go their separate ways In Star Trek III we see Spock again in intimate scenes which were not caused by external influences (Zarabeth and Leila Kalomi) Here he has to go through his Pon Farr together with Saavik, as he slowly returns to his original person after his death in "Wrath of Khan" on the Genesis planet In TNG, Sarek speaks of Spock's marriage, it is generally assumed that Saavik became his wife here

I don’t know I think they’re already changing things. Because in the original series, Christine does confess her love for Spock and Spock says that he’s just not capable of returning that. Very much giving the impression that he’s ace. A lot of people feel that way about the original Spock. But they have already changed it here. And the original series has absolutely no indication that Spock ever return feelings for Christine. In fact, it’s widely excepted that it was unrequited. But this is very different. And the show runners have already admitted that they have changed Timeline canon by moving the genetics wars further along the timeline. Who knows we might get lucky!

Ross wound up with Rachel. and Spock has the same moral integrity as Ross on Friends (We were on a break!"). I hope Christine takes a stand with Spock - break up with your fiance if you're going to have a relationship. I look forward to T'Pring taking Spock's money and property and making him pay for being a hound dog.

I'm not so sure anymore. Like I have a vague understanding where Spapel should end up TOS-wise, but then the creators and the actors have been hyping up Spapel SO. MUCH. those two seasons. Like in all The Ready Room episodes, they pretty much make it seem like they're in love at this point. Especially the way Jess describes their relationship. I just... absolutely fail to see how it should end up like in TOS. Christine in particular was so anti-attachments and serious relationships & it just doesn't get more serious than risking your life time and again for someone. I absolutely fail to see how she can just go off and suddenly fall in love with someone else and get engaged and everything. 🤔 I'm 90% sure they're diverging from canon with them.
