Historians have dubbed Fort King in Ocala "the most important inland fort in Florida during the 19th century." On today's episode, we show you the reconstructed wooden garrison, tell you how the great Seminole warrior Osceola fits into the fort's story and take you inside a brand new archaeology exhibit that focuses on unique finds from site excavations.

Awesome recap of the build to the Second Seminole War. In my opinion the Seminole wars are tragically over looked in popular media and history. Of all the Indian wars, it was definitely the most interesting because the Seminoles were incredibly modernized and adaptive, so fighting them wasn't as simple as other tribes the US dealt with. Would love a movie or TV show depicting the war or at least the beginning of it. So much so I'm working two books taking place during that time. Love the content too bro and keep exploring Florida. So much rich history that is often forgotten.

Outstanding documentary well done I've been studying the Seminole conflicts 4 years and you summarize them very well they essentially had burned everything south and east of Saint Augustine down into Volusia County and even further south as a show of resistance United States military there was a collection of those who were killed under the command of Dade in Saint Augustine

Fort Christmas around Orlando same design worth a visit as well has many examples of cracker house but not as known .

Chad curious how many Indian Wars were there?

Between 1775 and 1924, there were 40 named conflicts that made up the US Indian Wars. Some of the “wars” only amounted to smaller skirmishes, but the battles still reshaped the American frontier. Here in Florida, there were three Seminole Wars. The First Seminole War was mainly a series of smaller skirmishes.

Now this was more interesting than I thought it was. I'm doing a project on a historical place in Florida and I chose this because its the only thing that was decent enough to find at the time. Looks like I'm about to have a pretty detailed presentation, thanks lad.

Snce I live near Ocala have been to the fort, but see that there is much that need to see yet. did not know that there was a buried ground there.
