Join us on our visit and review of Fort Stevens State Park Campground in Oregon! This "close to the beach" and "close to the Columbia River" State Park has a lot to do, a lot to see and loads of campground sites! History, a fresh water lake, a shipwreck on the beach, hiking, a fort, great walking and biking, green and a new Travel Small Live Big "Campground Favorite"! A perfect RV & tent campground with hundreds of sites. We had a great spot for our Rpod and enjoyed our stay here at Fort Stevens!

That looked like a wonderful area! So many diverse activities - beautiful lake, great history, the beach. And the campground looked fantastic - spacious, not crowded, clean. I'm sure many would-be travelers will benefit greatly from this video. Knew Lexie would find her way into the water!

We weren't planning on going here ~ it sounded so huge, but we ended up loving it! Great walking, great for families and yes, great for a Labrador retriever! Next time we explore more :)

We love it too! In the right time of year... I think there are some larger spots for RVs of your size ~ we asked for the "away from people, quieter loop" and it ended up being great! Lots to see around this area. :)

Amazingly enough, we only plan out a day or so in advance... but we try to hit Oregon on the "shoulder season". If we were there in the middle of summer we would definitely have to plan more and make reservations. :) Heather

Reserve well in advance… especially the yurts. If you go later in the year, however - you just might see *elk.* (I did last Thursday, 10/12/2023. Gave them a wide berth.)

That’s so cool you saw elk! And thank you for the “give a wide berth” info, especially if it’s during their rut. I’ve watched a lot of videos of people walking right up to the male elk - holy cow!

@@TravelSmallLiveBig there was one of *THOSE* showing on Saturday during the bus ride back to Portland. It was very large, looked irritated, and I was glad to be in the bus. “Big Mean Elk” are trouble.

THAT is EXACTLY what we thought! UGH!! We usually aim for places with fewer sites and lots of division between them. But, we were running out of daylight and options and it ended up being lovely! The lake was a highlight for us and the dog of course. I think if we had more time, the history would have been great too! It was quiet and we had several sites in front of us empty so all good :) Heather

I was going back through some of your videos looking for Oregon Camp spots and I noticed you said in this video that dogs aren't allowed on a lot of beaches in California and I could not imagine that
@TravelSmallLiveBig
@TravelSmallLiveBig 4 жыл бұрын
I know... there are a few beaches around where we live that no one seems to care (if they are well-behaved dogs) and we know of a few beaches in what I would consider central CA - around Avila, Jalama, Cambria. I just love how relaxed OR is about so many things! Where will you be camping? We found some awesome spots last summer - Farewell Bend & Whispering Falls were great!

There are loads on forest service roads - just have to go out and explore! Our friends do a lot of forest camping in the Bend area - we have just never had enough time to drop the trailer off somewhere then drive around in the truck scouting spots.
