Eliot Coleman has been making soil blocks with Fort Vee for decades-hear him tell why soil blocks made with our potting soil have been such an important part of his farming practice over the years.

Oh Eliot, you're such a treasure, thank you so much for all the knowledge you have generously shared. I am a better gardener because of you, and I'm passing it all on too.

Excellent demonstration Eliot. I have bought your book and have all the versions of the soil block makers. Everything you have said is true. Works for our farm.

Fort Vee is magic soil. All issues disappeared when I switched over. Didn’t know Eliot used it.

Hi there Vermont Compost Company, in this video, is Coleman saying/showing that your lovely potting mix is sufficient on its own (without anything added) to make great soil blocks? I ask because I’m planning to use blocks this year for the first time and I’d love to avoid mixing Coleman’s block soil recipe is your mix is already perfect on its own for the job.

Lifelong vermonter and farmer here......I've found my containers do better when fort vee has a porous (like chunky perlite for example) addition to help it drain. I make my own compost and still go to your compost plus as BOOST to my living soils. Thanks guys! Great products!

Same here, I add perlite for seed-starting. Fantastic. Outlasts all the others I've tried with fertility.

Hello, I have a question regarding seed starting plug. I think these sponges are bound by a particular polymer. Does anyone know the name of this polymer used in production of the seed starting sponge plugs? I am open to any documents and information regarding the production of these sponge plugs as well. Thank you

www.johnnyseeds.com/growers-library/tools-supplies/soil-block-maker-instructions.html By far, the best and most efficient technique I have come across to start, grow, and transplant seedlings. I highly recommend his book "The New Organic Grower" by Elliot Coleman. He goes into much more detail on soil blocking.

I Canada you can get them from Lee Valley online or in their store locations. My local farm store in rural BC had a couple of them and I got them to order one size I wanted that they did not have.

Hi Eliot..quick question for you. You have a farm. Do you use this soil blocker to grow everything on your farm? It seems like an awful lot of work for the acreage you have? It sure looks like you use the block for a lot of things. Thanks for writing back...things going well out here in Utah using your winter/spring gardening/farming techniques...
