Here I'll show you how to use Behr Concrete Stain and prepare your concrete ........And how it was a big FAIL on my part.

Always try it on a test piece first. I've learned my lesson for sure. This stain works great and I'll be using it on future projects like driveways and other concrete. For this outdoor fireplace it was just too red and too fresh looking. I think even after it aged outside in the sun it'd still be too red for the look i was wanting. So I hope my mistakes you can learn from and check out the video of where I Fixed this Fail.

Yeah bro. You should have done a small testing spot or used it on an entirely separate stone completely. Anyhow. Live and learn. Great job fireplace looks GREAT

Looks good man. Are u concerned about the heat cracking the cinder blocks in your fireplace?

Thank you. No I did some test runs and surprisingly the heat doesn’t hit the block too much. And it dissipates well. You’d have to pack the whole thing wall to wall with wood and light it up to really get the walls to over heat.

I know right?!? I should have known better. But lesson learned and the fix came out great. They way I fixed it was how I was wanting to do it anyways but I was being lazy and wanted to try painting it. Lol

We used this stain but used the Behr primer under it. It dried more brown and had a true stained concrete look. We loved it. We added a black layer spritzed on top of it also with a spray bottle.

That would be a good idea to use the primer first. I made the mistake of just going straight to stain and well you see how it turned out.

@@FortKnoxCo The primer made it dissipate creating random patterns. I got nervous when I saw Fail because I was worried we messed up by using it

@@FortKnoxCo I'm confused doesn't primer and paint ( not stain) trap moisture. Ruins things that bricks

@@DawnSaleh if it’s a primer and paint then it will most likely trap moisture or repel moister. That could lead to problems if your not wanting that to happen

Was this a stain FAIL, or a color choice fail. Trying to find out if I want to try this stain. Thank you for the video...... I've never been a fan of the color of RUST. Neighbors us the color RUST with their wood mulch too. ???? just not my color taste I guess. Your fireplace is awsome!

Lol. I think it’s was an operator error mostly. The stain did it’s thing, but I just wasn’t prepared for how it’d take or what type of translucency it’d have. So I mainly made the video to show people what to expect when it takes to the cement or whatever they are going to apply it to. Just incase they don’t try a sample area like they recommend. Haha.

I got it from Arizona Stone and it’s Coronado stone products.

Yes you can use this product on any type of concrete pretty much. There’s all kinds of options for staining or coloring concrete. Everything from transparent stain like this to full color stain to epoxy and special paints.

I used Coronado Stone for this fireplace build. They are a really good product and I’ll be using them again for sure.

SOOOO surprised he didn't do a sample piece, area, first... And the color he chose 🤔 bummer... Don't do this, ALWAYS try a sample first... 😉

I was just going for it. I had a backup plan already which I ended up fixing this with, but I wanted to try the stain first because it could have been a lot less labor intensive than the smooth stucco finish I ended up doing. But that’s also why I filmed this process, lol. I had a feeling it could go really good, or really bad.

The initial concrete slabs? I was hoping to get a very light texture but the concrete was too wet and set before I could get back to it to smooth it out or retry a brush finish. It left deeper grooves than I wanted. So I planned on polishing the concrete, or staining and sealing. I was sort of experimenting with different finishes. It was a project at our home so I took the liberty to learn and try some stuff.

Just wasted a day on my concrete with Behar crap. After 30 years painting, I should know better than use a water based stain on concrete, ESPECIALLY SEMI TRANSPARENT CRAP! After two coats it still looks like Grey crap. Luckily, it's at my house, not a customers. Now I get to take another day, and get water based, since you cannot use DECENT STAIN, like H&C, which home depot no longer sells, have to go to lowes for that, but unfortunately, I can't fo that now. I have you use a solid color paint. Water based. DAMN!

Your correct. My main thing was to see how the concrete surface would absorb the stain, if it took it evenly or how much color it would give it in one or two passes. A true concrete paint would be much thicker and most likely cover in one pass.
