Mamlambo Fossils

Mamlambo Fossils

2 жыл бұрын

I've been meaning to check out this secluded area for a while now and finally had some good weather that coincided with a couple of free days in my calendar! I timed the tide wrong so I got stuck at one section for about 3 hours, at least I had time to explore that bay really, really reaaaallly well!
I was hiking with a GPS that streamed my exact position to some friends and family so that they could know where I was at any point in case of an emergency. I also had my PLB (personal locator beacon) with me as well as a medical kit and emergency rations.
Next time I really need a bigger tent! You will see why in the next episode.

Such beautiful scenery as I live in Southern Illinois (1.5hrs south east of St Louis 5hrs south of Chicago) everything around me is flat and dirt nothing but farmland. The 2 rivers (large creeks) close to me are called the Big Muddy and the Little Muddy. Its probably a good thing I don't live somewhere like that I would bring home truckloads of rocks.

Really great finds! It's funny because I collect the Miocene as well over here on the east coast. Sharks teeth are everywhere here, but finding a complete crab is extremely rare whereas New Zealand is so chock full of crab, but sharks teeth seem more rare to find. Two sides of the same coin I guess.

Hello and thank you for sharing the start of your camp out 😊 there were some stones just before you picked up the orangey coloured bone that had holes in them. The one in particular was on the left of the screen and had what looked like fairly regularly spaced holes in a loose diamond shape. Would that maybe be from coral? I was wondering 🤔 🙂if you had any idea. Cheers stay well.

3:50 that is a gorgous piece of shell, do you find a lot of that on the beach? That would be a great pendant,......I know you can not send off fossils but can you send away a piece of that made into jewelry or to be made into jewelry by someone else? (wink wink nudge nudge) You should go to your local hardware store and get you a nail set/punch to use with your hammer when trying to extract things, they come in various sizes and are tappered, small, light and fit in your pocket. Maybe pick up a few construction marker flags to mark left behinds for pick up on the walk back. I am curious if fossils or minerals associated with the concretions would react to any alternate light sources and fluoresce in the dark, if so could that make night seaches a whole new avenue of possiblities?
@MamlamboFossils
