My husband and I are almost so a point where we feel ready to welcome a foster child into our life. All of your videos give me food for thought, but this one felt so important. It’s such a huge thing, but I feel like it’s not something you hear about often. Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️

Can’t wait for the website launch! You are so right about advocating for a child’s time. They are getting pulled every which way. Use this as a real life example for teaching time management too!

As someone who works in a center for children in the system (they either have behavioral issues within the foster home or there are no foster homes for them at the moment, and we’re ages 10-17). The teens have my heart. Between being adopted, your channel and my job, I’m 100% wanting to foster or adopt

I was in foster care for a little over 5 months (in 1979). I had already gone to 2 schools that year. My emergency placement required another school ... and my long-term placement was in yet another school. That was 4 schools for 1st grade. My little brother and I were together in one foster home and our older brother and sister were in another foster home. We only saw them when we saw our mom. In the end, since our mom chose her new husband over us, we ended up getting to go back to Ohio to be with our dad.

Prudent parenting. This is the first time I've ever heard that term. Very interesting.

I just want to let you know that you totally touched on all the right topics as what a foster kid would want and I know that so many people make decisions for kids in care as I was previously a kid in care I have now aged out of the system for many years now and the family that I was placed with was a huge blessing to have them they are now my forever family and I gained four brothers and a sister and I just want to let you know that I was able to do a lot of what normal kids did I played soccer, I played hockey, I played rugby and Idid track and field at School but things that came down to me not being able to do certain things were like field trips, hangouts, or just going over to a friend's house for a sleepover it was a lot more time management in having to ask workers for permission and getting permission form signed and record checks done by the parents of where I was going and it was just so much work so thank you for your videos as it inspires me to watch them and you are doing a great job. I just love how you do so much for a kid to feel welcome to come in to your home and they have a stuffed animal and some other stuff. Keep up the good work.

I cared for a foster child who was in the process of being adopted and there was a program (I can’t remember the details) that provided money to families for normalcy. They applied and got it so the child enrolled in karate classes at the school where his brother (family’s bio-child) took classes. Also another kind of off the wall normalcy thing that occurred in the house: the 2 foster/adopted children are native and their tribe has traditions around long hair. So all of the kids of both genders ended up growing their hair long for a long time. Oddly enough, all of the boys decided they wanted hair cut short at about the same time!

Protecting their time was so hard. One of the kiddos had 120 appointments in 156 days. It was absurd and she was an Introvert and no one listened to me about her needs and what worked. It ended up resulting in burnout REALLY quickly.

You would hope the case worker would be on top of that, but I guess not. Thankfully they had you to advocate for them 💗

It just dawned on me that the kids in care are the ones suffering the most intense, traumatic consequences. They get shipped off, often to strangers, while their parents get to stay in their home, comfortable, and keep their regular lives whereas the kids are made to live completely different lives on the flip of a dime BECAUSE of their parents.

What state are you located in? Are you allowed to homeschool foster children in your state? If not how do homeschool families manage that?
