I 3rd that it's so sad but she has obviously done everything humanly possible but it's sad that it just wasn't enough to save theo but Joshua has a fighting chance now!!!and that's saying allot bc without careing human intervention they would be all parishes in that park but it's one of those things that give you faith in humanity!!!! Such a sweet and amazeing story that little piggy(joshua) is a very lucky piglet who now seems to be thriveing and bc of the intervention of many ppl but truely idk know her name but Joshua mom(owner) is just a good human being to go outta her way to make sure this little guy could have a fighting chance something that he didn't have when he was abandoned in that park!!! Sad sweet and adorable story!!! I'm so happy she decided to share in with us!!!XD

My guess is she didn't. She believed it was. How can an omnivorous mammal be intolerant to animal protein? The piglet was intolerant to some nasty chemical thing on the formula, and when she took it from the animal, he started to thrive.

And just like a human can be intolerant to lactose a animal can be intolerant to certain proteins. Its a simple genetic defect that can cause all sorts of different symptoms, for example seizures.

Baby mammals require very specific nutrition, the fact that humans can even safely consume cow's milk is basically an anomaly in the animal kingdom. Most animals REQUIRE their mother's milk, or something nearly identical. And it's not hard to fathom that different pig breeds could have different nutritional requirements.

@KatKuzumochi This has NOTHING to do with lactose. Different animals produce different proteins in their milk. Even different animals of the same species produce different proteins. The healthiest thing a baby can have is it's own mother's milk.

If people ate less meat (or stopped eating meat altogether) we would be able to grow more food for human consumption, so people going vegan or vegetarian definitely isn't going to make more people die of starvation.

@Artoria Pendragon None of that is true in this day and age. I'm /not/ a vegan, for the record. But no, mammals are incredibly unefficient both in farming and in our eating them. The only meat based diet that is actually healthy, natural for the human digestive system, and efficient is pesketarianism, and even then we're overfishing too much so it's a problem. Not sure what you mean by meat vs animal protein being that they're the same thing, but if you misspoke and meant plant protein, that's also untrue. You don't need to eat any processed food to be pesketarian or vegetarian at the very least, nor do you need any supplements. Our great, great ancestors survived on fruits, wild veggies, nuts, legumes, fish, and the occasional bird. It's why people are bad at handling dairy overall. We aren't developed for it. Our natural diet (the most efficient one) is pesketarian. People needing supplements and having unefficient vegan diets aren't a representation of actual meatless diets. They're a representation of what happens when someone with unhealthy eating habits and body image issues takes on veganism, the same way those paleo-diet morons are representations of what happens when meat eating people go batshit over weird diet stuff. Most vegetarians eat less processed food than meat eaters, are generally very healthy, and snack and enjoy meals just as much as you do. Same goes to vegans, probably doubly. Only unefficient diets are unhealthy ones. Cutting meat out isn't a problem if you do it right, the same way eating meat isn't a health problem if you do /that/ right.
