My girlfriend said Lithuanians don't have swear words in their language, get ready I'm about to randomly test this theory.

Some of my favorite (and ridiculous) swear words are: rūpūs miltai (coarse flour) žalia rūta (green rue) po šimts kalakutų (hundred turkeys) eik tu debesų spardyti (go kick some clouds) kad tave Perkūnas (may Perkūnas (the thunder god) hit you) kad tau kelnėse ežys išdygtų (may a hedgehog pop up in your pants). No one uses them anymore but they're so funny.

I swear Pisti is the base of the language. Prapisti, nupisti, apipisti, uzpisti, atpisti, pripisti, nusipisti, ispisti, atsipisti, dapisti......

"Jop-ta-ra-rai!" word used in similar case as "Po velnių" or "Damn it"..

You've missed one of the best - kad tave šikantį sutrauktų! It literally means "May you get a cramp while taking a shit". It's only four words and actually sounds poetic, one of my absolute favourites!

Lithuanian is a bit open-ended regarding the swearwords. Of course, there are set phrases like the ones you mentioned with „šūdas“, but really talented people can turn any word into a swearword, invoking deeply insulting, amusing or any other imagery they want. In this way, swearing is achieved by creative use of metaphors. And, man, it can cut much deeper than a complacent "shit".

Most common of our swear words have been borrowed from our Slavic neighbours. Due to Lithuania's particular history and geographical position in the middle between Poland and Russia, we have some unique combinations that require several alphabets to write down. Such as the colorful KURWA НАХУЙ (kūrva nachui), which would mean "whore on a dick" in Pan-Slavic.

Pogalais (under ends) is sayd affter something went wrong. Velniava (devil here) and is an expression for something that goes wrong, my fav is kad tu Skradžei žemę prasmektum {turbūt su klaidom parašiau} (let you disappear underground) and is used when someone is supper angry on some one.

We have lots of swear words, but maybe they dont seem as potent these days. But we still use some regularly (at least I do in my head). Some older swear words and phrases and less vulgar ones, appropriate for children: Rupūs miltai - rough flower Kad tave kur devynios - where the nines (litteral: that you where nines - I have no idea how to translate it properly though) Po šimts pypkių - under 100 pipes Po galais - under the ends Knisti - it means to dig but it is used as a milder version of pisti and you can add all the same prefixes to this one to have same, but less vulgar meanings. I guess simillar to frick or duck Subinė - means butt, could mean bad luck or calling someone asshole Subingalvis - ass head or asshole Subinėj - in a butt (in a bad place) Also if you want to insult people we use animal names for it: For men: Kiaulė or paršas - pig Gaidys - rooster (big fake ego) Šunsnukis - dog face Avigalvis - sheep head Ožys - goat (stubborn) Asilas - donkey (asshole) For woman: Kalė - bitch Karvė - cow (fat or ungrateful i think) Varna - crow (distracted) Ožka - goat (hysterical) Kaliausė - scarecrow (ugly) Valkata - Hobo Šlikštynė - grotesque When you want to call somone dumb: Durnas Durnius Kvailys Stuobrys - stool Bukas - blunt Bukaprotis - blunt mind Begalvis - headless Kaušas - scoop Other honorable mentions: Beprotis - without mind (crazy) Skystakiaušis - liquid balls (chicken as if not brave enough) Žioplys or Žioplas - abbsent minded, gawk? And these are at the top of my head, there are definitely more.

Fun fact, it's socialy acceptable to use Lithuanian swear words/phrases in public. At least when I used to go to school we were allowed to use them.

you forgot about "Špyga (tau)" aka no way/nope often accompanied with a hand gesture. My granddad also used to swear using "vabalą tau į nugarą" aka Get a roach onto your back as a lighter version of F** off. Or as a curse "Kad tave (šikantį) trilinką susuktų" aka I wish you'd get bent triple (while shitting), that one when some one p** you off and you send "best wish" this way for the wrong-doer

Nice take on the topic! Most Lithuanians would say that we don't really have any true swear words in the Lithuanian language. That's because they're full of shit - there is a full page in the interwar Lithuanian dictionary dedicated entirely to the word "dick" (bybys) and its many derivatives. Also, the word for "fuck" (pisti) has countless usage possibilities in the Lithuanian language like "fuck off" (atsipisk) and so on as you noted in your video. Both these two words (bybys and pisti) are highly offensive and most people use them regularly like normal swear words without even thinking about it, so to my fellow Lithuanians: stop the nonsense with the myth about pure and innocent Lithuanian language.

What means "Eik tu nah(ren)" idk how it is said, but I know a lot of Lithuanians uses is.

A lot of people also often use "Gaidys", which means rooster/cock, and the meaning of it is more like idiot/dumbass.

I was a little bit disapointed that no one mentioned one of my favorites- "Dalbajobas" (to imply that person who is called that way is retarded and also malevolent) Also "Nuopysa/Nuokruša"- not shure how to translate it but this word is very very strong Also "Benkartas"- technicaly it means bastard son but somehow it has derogatory flavor to it or can be used as an insult even if person in question is not indeed a bastard son Also "Pyderastas/Pydaras" is a good one that means fagot Also "Šūdarankis"- literaly means shit handed usually used to describe person who is incapable to do their work appropriately, especially used against those who work in some kind of manufacturing/ construction/ repairing and so on. Also "Pizdavotis' to mock someone gently ( or not) Also "Pisti protą" to "fuck someones brain" or to irritate someone/ lie to someone

Lithuanian swear words are cute and totally harmless to use in public sparingly (personally I endorse it even). Which is why most use foreign more vulgar sounding ones. I think Finland is in a similar situation when it comes to it - not an expert but most of what you can hear is a mention of devil. Again, not an expert. I was missing my favorite "rupūs miltai", "po šimts pypkių" and maybe "velniai rautų". Good educational video, cheers!

2:33 why no examples? Maybe it is mainly Samogotia thing. "Tau pize" - you're fucked. Or "Tau bus pize" - you're gonna be fucked. As in you will have a bad day. Could also mean you will be beaten up, depending on context. Or "pize pize" said when feeling disappointment, disgust and surprise all at the same time. Could be used to replace the "really" "labai" like in "really beautiful" when describing something. Beautiful - kaip gražu, Really beautiful - pize kaip gražu. Usually meaning a level above really beautiful. Can also be used for something negative or combined with the first one, "piziu pize" - royally fucked. Related to Russian to some extent. Sorry not a linguist, can't explain in proper terms.

I never really use lithuanian swear words. Most of them sound weird so i just use english ones

would Belarusians join Lithuania like form a new country like the grand duchy of Lithuania. Also I want Lithuania to completely annex Belarus and form a stronger ,and bigger nation giving Belarusians more freedom than than the Belarusian government .
