Can the same thing be said about a pitcher winning MVP? A pitcher doesn't offer anything offensively but we've had pitchers winning MVP in the past.

Pitchers dont suffer WAR penalties for pitching. Shohei could legitimately finish with a 9.0 WAR and be penalized almost 2.0 WAR points for not taking the field. His offensive production is clearly so overwhelmingly great hes a contender & the WAR penalty is significant

How can it diminish value when Ohtani is leading NL in WAR - projected at 9.0 WAR. Significantly better than what Harper or Ozuna projected out. WAR and fWPA supposedly determines value. Ohtani is leading and projects to be best in NL. @Ken already fixing on voting against Ohtani for MVP. lol. 😂

It was reported in Japan media. But you may be correct, it didn’t say anything about length of the contract so it could very well be multi year sponsorship. However, the media did report that the Dodgers have collected bulk of Ohtani’s $700M already. The sponsors are equivalent of Fortune 100’s (ie: Mitsubishi Bank) so I imagine the contracts are large as reported. And they are reporting that 6 more corporations are under negotiations.

Even five years ago, when WAR was not as widely quoted as it is now, a full-time DH might have been automatically disqualified in MVP voting. But the situation is different today. If Ohtani's WAR is higher than say Harper's at the end of the season, then an argument can be made that Ohtani's offensive-only output has exceeded Haper's combined value of offense and defense. Also, voters know Ohtani's ability as an elite pitcher, which separates him from all other DH-only sluggers. Even if this distinction is supposed to be irrelevant in this seasons' MVP voting, it could still influence voters' thoughts in Ohtani's favor.

The whole Blue Jays organization is in dire need of something to happen. Let James Click take over in the front office. I do not want Ross Atkins' fingerprints on this team any longer. He's had his time. He has completely failed in almost every aspect up and down. Also, this organization cannot afford a re-build. They've spent so much money on renovations, that if they completely sell-off every possible asset, it's going to be 2009-2012 all over with barely anyone in the seats. You've already pissed off your season ticket holders by doubling their price. Your number two prospect is suspended. Your number 1 prospect can't seem to stay healthy. My one request from this team is to find a way to grab Eric Cerantola from the Royals. I found this kid back in 2015 when scouting for PBR Ontario and still have high expectations for the 6'5 RHP. At least to make up for taking Chad Dallas in the draft over him.

@richierugs6544 You must be the type that cannot accept people’s success and popularity. Or plain ignorant. The dodgers just signed their 13th corporate sponsor from Japan which now exceeds $500 million in one year. And this doesn’t include the souvenirs that you eloquently mentioned. Smart people (Dodger front office) know talent. They also know business. Something you obviously don’t possess judging from your biased opinion.
@user-ll9qk2el4d
@user-ll9qk2el4d Ай бұрын
Where did you get the information that all the sponsors' contracts exceed $500 million per year? That is highly doubtful. It's more likely these are multi-year contracts that add up to $500 million. When Ohtani played for the Angels, the team received about $30 million in sponsorship deals. I know the Dodgers is marketing machine, but this is beyond what is realistic. What is not out of the question is that each year's sponsorship money could be enough to pay for Ohtani's yearly salary.
