There is a very solid reason that there is a hair widths difference between genius and insanity. The average or even above average intelligent people will struggle, at best, to understand the actions, reactions, personality types, etc of someone that legitimately possesses a genius level IQ. We don't have the capability to fully understand all of those things because the genius mind is already 5 steps ahead of us. It takes us more time to understand the methods and motives of a person with a much higher IQ. Much in the same way that kids on the autism spectrum tend to excel in mathematics and sciences but struggle with English and Social Studies classes. It's not that they are dumb in any way; their brain and mind simply work better for things that have structured systems and rules over things that have a rule set but seemingly have an exception to every rule. English class is the perfect example of this because you are taught "finite rules" of the English language like "I before E except after C" which does not cover all of the exceptions to that rule. But typically speaking the rules of Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Trigonometry, etc never change or have exceptions. They might show different ways to find an answer, but those routes will never contradict each other.

What I’d do is 246 x ten, which means I add a zero, making it 2460, then half it, which is 1230 making 246 x 5 1230, then add 246. 1230 + 246 = 1476 therefore 246 x 6 is 1476. This is just one example of how we think a bit more out of the box. To be honest though, autism is like drawing lots, you could either get life a bit harder, a bit easier, or if you hit the jackpot you become Einstein. We can do it with rats now but still can't do it with humans. Or when Walter jumped from a shuttle falling from space and they shoot a torpedo under his landing zone so breake the surface tension. In theory it works but it's a show so they take creative liberties. This show generally speaking is accurate compared to other shows. If you took a group of some of the smartest people in the world in a room who all specialize in things that directly benefit each other the things they could do are limitless.

Course, since I was unaware that I had Asperger's until my 50's -- to my parents, and my sister, I was simply an embarrassment -- I never learned enough social skills to get to the point of being comfortable around "normal" people.

my spouse has an IQ of 180 and he literally cant keep a job and pisses everyone off (me included sometimes). You ask this man ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING and he is 99.9% correct every single time. Normally, a true genius wouldn’t only have a high IQ but a high EQ too. Just because someone is highly intelligent doesn’t mean they will be an asshole to be around and can’t understand social cues. I have this classmate that has his 10 year plan totally down. He wants to graduate from our university with a really good grade to begin a masters degree and then go to a really good university to get his doctors. But he still goes out to party’s when the student council plans them and is just generally a joy to be around. He puts in the work, he’s smart, but also very kind and funny.

@@mitchratka3661 It was. IQ, in layman's terms, is about how quickly your brain can assimilate, extrapolate and process information. The higher the IQ the better the brain is with information. EQ is essentially the same thing but for emotions. In other words, if Einstein's IQ were noticeably lower, he would have been able to understand and solve all the problems he needed to understand and solve to create the theory of relativity. And even then, his theory is imperfect, which is why it's still only a theory.

My brother was like this. When he was in first grade, he was tearing through the math workbooks, bored out of his mind. They had him doing 6th grade workbooks because that was the highest they had access to. He was behind in other areas but they tossed around moving him up to my grade. Decided not to. Me, I’m very math-challenged but gifted in English, reading, etc. I’ve pretty much failed every math class I’ve ever taken but drove my Astronomy 1010 professor nuts by asking him questions about theoretical physics. When he was handing out essay subjects for this very basic class, my classmates got “the sun”, “the moon”, “Jupiter”, etc. he gave me “quasars” and said “That should keep you occupied. For about three days.” … I had it done in less than six hours, and that included time getting to the library. Basic algebra defeats me, though.

Bullshit, we all want to think our kids are geniuses but it's far from the truth.

I’m sure people with learning disabilities/special needs appreciate all their representation being akin to Rain Man, because as we all know every genius was autistic and every autistic person is a genius.

There’s a really great video called why gifted children really are special education children by Jordan Peterson and I believe he makes the reference of being born with the blue print to a mansion while everyone else if born with a blue print for a regular house and people raise you and tell you all you’re life you’re going to build a mansion someday because you were just born with the ability to do it. You’ll do everything your peers do but to be left with an unfinished mansion and everyone else has a finished house. Just because you have the blueprint to be a genius doesn’t mean the parents, school or general society will have any idea how to help that kid “build” a mansion when all they have ever built was a house.

Sounds like me in the sense of needing to know anything and everything at every moment, as if my life depends on it. It has made me a lot smarter than my peers.
