Great job. I like when you explain the details background of every formula. You have my support my 100%.

Could you consider an example of finding the moment on a column footing? I understand the general concept, but I don't understand where the moment equation comes from (CERM says M=qLl^2/2). They say it's based on an idealized cantilevered beam with non-uniform loading, but that doesn't make sense to me since that's not the moment equation... If you already have a video, would you mind sharing it :) Thank you! Love your videos

Hi Estherbass! thanks for this question. I am familiar with that CERM equation... is that in the electronic CERM for the CBT pe exam or a paper back one? let me know and ill check it out!

@@Kestava_Engineering Thanks for responding! I actually think I finally figured it out. I was using a problem where there was no eccentricity in the footing, so the line load should have been constant and the moment wl^2/2. The equation from CERM is 16th edition 55.24, it's basically moment of a fixed cantilever but written in terms of the soil bearing pressure, but it makes sense now. Thanks again!

I see a comment related to this. Can you please explain again why the section modulus is B*L2/6 and not B* T2/6? The nuetral axis is along L. Am I right? At that point, if we go back to the basic Stress = My/I formula, the "y" factor for me seems to be half of the thickness. Because L at the top face increases and L at the bottom face decreases. So shouldnt "y" be the distance from nuetral axis to the bending face. Hence T/2? At that point, the section modulus gets derived to B*T2/6. I don't understand where I'm going wrong.

@@Kestava_Engineering Thanks for the sweet channel mate. Really enjoying your pedegody and enthusiasm. I am an adult learner attending Old Dominon University’s onliine CET program. I have been building structures for 25 years and now I want to design them!. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Biagio.

Can you explain where to find these equations in code? With the new CBT do we just need to memorize these equations?

thanks a great point... i grab these formulas from outside the code. hmmmm ill need to look into this

@@Kestava_Engineering Any update on whether you found them? I don't think they're in the handbook and would be tough on the CBT exam for that reason.

I understand a point load is just from the “gravity” (Snow, dead, live, roof life, etc.) but “how”/where does the moment come from? Is that from the wind or Seismic? (Lateral)? I’ve just been wondering or is it from the overturning moment or resistance moment?
@mujahed5458

The loads dos not often come at the center of the base; This depends on the location of the base in the construction, and the bending moment is equal to the factored loads multiplied by the distance between the center of the load to the center of the column or base (eccentricity). Usually, the reactions (including moment) are calculated from analysis programs and the design is based on them, and It can be calculated manually

the moment comes either from the gravity load or lateral load or both of them

Can you explain why S in method #1 is not width*thickness^2 over 6? Why do we need a length of the footing for section modules ?

Look at the face that the moment is being applied to, this is BxL not Bxt.
