We're doing a deep-dive of another Aedif module called Tactical Grid. Perfect for most systems, gridless games, and measuring distances between tokens or ranges of weapons and spells. It works with a plethora of Foundry VTT modules and is practically system agnostic. Let's dig in!

I love gridless but I have a player who has a really hard time conceptualising distance without a grid so this might help! :O I don't do gridless in that campaign for that reason. But perhaps, with this, I can!

Hypnotic Eldritch Blossom. Pretty sure that's a Dungeons of Drakkenheim creature. I'd love if you created some assets/scenes that could easily slot into a Drakkenheim campaign!

the resolution of the video it's not great but the video is great good information like always is hard to see up close sorry to be honest.

Hi Baileywiki, nice this module, it could replace dragon rule since in the v12 version it is currently not supported. A question about the unit of measurement, I use meters and not feet, does the module calculate the correct measurements based on how they are set in the scene? If I set in meters, does the module display everything in meters? Thank you

Yes if you set your grid units to 'm' then the distance measurements as well as item range highlights will be converted into meters. The module however has not yet been updated with v12 support but will be soon.

​@@aedif9566Is necessary Elevention Rule modules? Another question I think if a PC can't see an NPC or monster, the tactical grid module doesn't show the distance otherwise players would always know where their opponents are hiding?

@@Hazuma81 Elevation Ruler is not necessary, it's only convenient if you wish to change the token elevation while you're dragging it which Tactical Grid will recognise and should calculate the distance measurements accordingly. Players will not see distance measurements if tokens are not visible to them, or if a token has a 'Secret' disposition.

@@aedif9566 I tried to enable the module but in the map created by Baileywiki it doesn't turn off the grid while on other maps when I put the token in the map, it slows everything down when I move it 🤔. I have to try it by disabling dragon rule? P.s i setting the shortcut button

@@Hazuma81 Are you using a cover calculator integration? Depending on which one you use and what settings you select calculating cover during drags can be computationally expensive. Otherwise the module should not be impacting your performance. Regarding the grid not being turned off; if the map already has a grid baked in (it's part of the image) that wont be removed. Also you can enable/disable the grid either globaly or per scene. Make sure you're using `Toggle Grid on Current Layer (Global)`. That's what you want for the vast majority of cases. If you toggled it for the scene using the other keybinding you will now need to continue using it for that scene, as that overrides whatever the global setting is.

Is there anyway to be able to show your players what you are doing with this module. I use a gaming table for my campaign, so the table is running a generic profile that is the owner of all the players but is not a GM (that way I can keep some things secret) on one cpu and I'm running my GM view on another. In experimenting with this is does not seem to show anything I'm doiing in the players view unless I go to their cpu and do things there. Not a huge deal but it would make it far easier if I could just select their weapon on my screen and show them what range they have from my cpu. Thanks. Love your content.

Do you use Monks Common Display? Seems like that giving an Observer access to everyone's character sheets would work

@@Baileywiki Thanks for the reply. I am using Common Display. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to transfer. Not a big deal just have to go to the table pc to show my players.

I noticed it is not calculating hypotenuse quite correctly. A medium size target that is 60 feet away and 100 feet up in the air should be 116.62 feet away, but the module is calculating it as 125 feet. Maybe a rounding issue??

I believe you're not actualling moving a token 60ft away if you're getting a distance of 125ft as calculated by TG. I think you're 1 square off. Confirm by using the ruler to measure from on top of the origin token to the target token. The value of 125ft also suggests to me that you're using a keybinding that is measuring in grid spaces. You should use `Display Distances` not `Display Distances (Grid Spacing)`.

​ @unknowncomic4107 I understand, but I believe you're using a keybinding that measures in grid spaces not euclidean geometry which will never yield the result you expect. When measuring in grid spaces the module will measure in grid space increments and also apply Diagonal Multiplayers in the module settings to simulate the 5/5/5 and 5/10/5 rules commonly used on square grid based maps. Calculated like that the module does give the correct distance which can be verified by using the native foundry ruler; a token being 60ft away and 100ft in the air is equivalent to a token being 60ft away in the X direction, and 100ft away in the Y direction. Place a token like that and then use the native ruler to measure the distance from the origin token to the target one. You'll see that it's 130ft corresponding to what the module shows when you use the grid space keybinding. imgur.com/JgS4xmw imgur.com/GoT0AlY If you want to do testing that does not implement these grid based movement rules then use the `Display Distances` keybinding. That should give results that correspond to what you'd expect if you're calculating a euclidean distance between the two token center points. If that is still off from what you expect, then I'd gladly take a look at it as a bug.

The ranges for spells and items are defined in the item/spell itself. They will have ranges defined already in most cases.

As a new GM I love your content but I'll NEVER play a Hasbro game. After 2006 (I think that was the year) I left the DnD platform for the Piazo platform. I'd rather give my hard earned cash to a straight up RPG company. Just wished you do some more PF2e content, I know you try to reach the widest audience but as a nerd I just feel like Piazo puts out a better product.
