To halt deterioration of concrete fountain, fill large cracks and openings with DAP Ready-Mix Concrete Patch. Repair small horizontal cracks in fountain bowl with DAP Liquid Cement. Paint interior of bowl with a pond and fountain waterproof paint and sealant. Follow all product manufacturers' instructions.

It may work here too, but I use the 1" chip brushes from Harbor Freight to apply caulking to wood siding. Unlike when you use your finger, the bristles follow the grain pattern so you don't end up with an eyesore smooth spot where it should be textured. I cut the bristles of a new brush down so the brush bristles are only about 3/4" to 1" long. The stiff bristles allow you to work caulking and things into cracks, AND you don't wear your fingers raw applying caulk and such.

Great video. Exactly what I wanted to see. The cement paste for filing large voids on the bottom and the cement crack filler are two products I will look for. I wonder if the mosquito abatement products are harmful to birds. If so, I wouldn't use it.

The product is not supposed to be harmful to birds, but probably should not be used in a fountain with tropical fish. Read all labels carefully prior to purchase.

Upset listen to you, bought stupid DPA liquid cement crack filler and when open the botle, was water first and then like Rock inside botle , and could not use, for my fountain , hope you answer, as I could not shake it, and make it easy for the crack ?

I have a fountain that the reservoir does not leak, however, when the pump is running there is a leak somewhere inside the concrete, there is no wet spot anywhere near the reservoir but the water is leaking on its way up to the distribution point? but no signs of a leak.

My fountain was paint with a latex outdoor paint and now it's peeling ,can I sand and remove what I can and still have good results,the fountain is more then 40 yrs. old

+Carol Dean If the latex paint is peeling, then it might be better to use epoxy paint when you redo it. It involves a two-step mixing process before application. Epoxy paint for concrete is available at The Home Depot.

Use a paint stripper. If the stripper is soap and water clean up, then you can use soap and water to remove the flakes that you will scrape off. After the desolving and scraping, use a brush plus detergent to scrub, then rinse with the hose. Instead of a plastic spatula, I scraped mine with a paint can lid and that fit my hand nicely. (That chemical 'afterwash' is only necessary for wood.) The prep for the next finish is the confusing part. I have had two failures, with the last failure being Rust-Oleum hammer bronze. But I had not done an acid wash nor a sealer nor a primer.

Nice job. I personally would of used 3M waterproof electrical tape for the connection. That's what I use in my watergarden.

the pump is submersible isn't it? I found an old fountain I was thinking of making it a project but it has refinishing issues, cracks and not sure there's a pump. But its of similar size.

Atochabsh Yes, the pump is submersible and is available in various sizes at Amazon and Patio & Garden Shops. Good luck.

+Atochabsh That's a Little Giant model 1A. I have an ancient (over 45 years old) version of that pump and it's still going strong to this day. A bit more pricey than the modern magnetic pumps, but it will last forever and I highly recommend it!

Thanks, that helps me for my repairs. I have only seen mosquito dunks, and never seen the product you show. Who makes it so I can find it in the store?.

David James The product is “Mosquito Bits.” It is made by Mosquito Dunks, the same company that makes the dunks. It can be purchased at Amozon.com. Search under Patio, Lawn, and Garden.

I have a Cantera Stone 3 tier fountain, the biggest bowl on the bottom is the one that can't hold water. I can not see any cracks. How or what can I pour in it to stop the leak/water from draining out?

+Paula Monks Sounds like water is leaking out of the center of the bottom bowl where the water supply line/pump electrical line comes into the bowl. (See that screen shot in my video.) Drain & disassembly fountain. Let dry out in the sun. Remove any old sealant. Clean area thoroughly. Apply marine caulking or adhesive sealant to area in accordance with instructions on the container. Before reassembly, make sure bottom bowl has stopped leaking.

+weyutome Thank you, We kinda figured something like that, but fountain is so big and heavy, it would take a tractor to lift the top Bowles, that's what it took to install it 2 yrs. ago.
