In 2021, four graves dating back to the settlement period of Iceland were found during archeological excavations on the farm Fjörður by Seyðisfjörður in eastern Iceland. The findings were quite a surprise for the archeologists because they did not believe that there were older remains than from the 18th century in the area. But during their excavation, they noticed that a landslide dated to 1150 had sealed off parts of the area.

Another first class production, very nice way to start a cold, wet Sunday morning. In the medieval times it is thought that the climate in northern Europe was milder than today and the Norse were always looking for new, fertile land to settle. I am no expert but I assume that the landscape of Iceland was similar to the homelands of the settlers, and being uninhabited, made settlement somewhat easier. With modern ground radar technology, we may find many more things hidden by time and the Earth.

I think you are right about that. I read that the climate was a lot milder on Greenland as well, and the only reason why they left, was because it was not possible to grow crops anymore. I love the new ground radar technology, we will learn so much from this :)
