Really find your vids helpful, THANKS for taking the time to share your knowledge. One thing I would suggest, is when you mention the condition of a part, could you show where it is worn and how to asses that part for wear? I recently bought a, partially disassembled, 1983 318 with 822 hours showing. I suspect the hour meter has been tampered with as it only has 70 psi of compression on both cylinders. It does run, but hard to start. Once it starts it seems to run reasonably well. It looks clean, no oil leaks, but it may have been cleaned up to sell. Anyway, showing how to asses the parts would help me out right now as I go through this tractor. Thanks, and keep up the good work, it is very helpful. I am 72 years old, what I would have given for KZfaq 50 years ago. What a great resource!

just cut the old swivel ball off that cylinder and weld on a new one, its a pretty simple fix, you have a lot to learn when it comes to repairing obsolete equipment. there is no way i would part that out, all simple fixes

Last year I got myself a parts 140h1 weirdly enough the deeper I dug into it the better of condition the machine. Ended up saveing it and useing my original 140 for parts. Thanks for the video. I love knowing what to look for when I see one for sale.

I would never pay 1200 for it, i would offer 300 and restore it . I paid 50 for mine ,good engine and transmission no major rust, but everything else was worn out. I restored/refreshed it for about 800

Unfortunately some tractors jave to die so others can live on i cant see myself parting out a running tractor but if the deal was right i might i bought a 314 litterally for the hood and am finding uses for the rest of it everyday it was a really good deal it was only $150 but it wasnt worth much more then that as the hood and fender pan were about the only good things on it lol but the rear tires hold air one front holds air so im happy with it

The two core components of a tractor, the engine and transaxle, are intact on this 318. How is it worn out? $200-400 worth of parts is easily justifiable in my mind. Wear in the hydrostatic linkage is common and repairable. Can you explain what about the front axle is not fixable? There are bushings around the pivot pin and Deere even makes a wear plate kit you can bolt onto the axle if the alignment bolts are wearing into the frame. I see 318's being parted out on Ebay regularly and it disappoints me people give up on them so easily.

People have the right to do what they want with their machines!!!! I personally would have restored it for 2 reasons 1)there is none being made and never will be and 2) My largest tractor is a 317 and a 318 is one of 2 tractors on my bucket list. The other is an IH cub 982. I most likely will get a 318 at some point the 982 I do not see happening but you never know. I do have a few good tractors and am happy with my current collection. 6 Deere, 3 Cubs and a Massey. Yes I spent more restoring a couple than they were worth but if I do not save them who will.

What are your thoughts on the trans coolers they put in these machines I have a 322 i work the piss out of on a regular basis and I was wondering if it would be worth it to put a trans cooler in it or just run it thanks
