Very informative video. Thanks. For those researching ductless mini splits this is my experience with Daikin. I tried to register my Daikin mini split on the computer and it would not register. Concerned i decided to call Daikin Customer service and they refused to register it over the phone. Then customer service for Daikin hung up on me. That was on July 2022. So i recommend not buying Daikin due to bad customer support.

Outstanding brief on ductless. Wish we had a showroom nearby like this. Many companies here are show to push these over the conventional units. Though there is one fella in town who does push D.L....used to push mitsubishi but changed over to Fujitsu maybe for better profit margin or user friendlier price. He felt Fujitsu is better. My good friend an HVAC Tech & fld supervisor rates mitsubishi as top shelf. Haven't heard much feed back on L.G. or Fujitsu from him but he did comment that Daikin cabinets are very thin and rust out quickly in his coastal area. Our 1987 conventional Rudd system is still churning on. At our age unless we experience catastrophic failure which the home owner can't fit then the future owner will be the one to introduce ductless into this house. My only concern is the flare fittings on lines thru attic or walls...am thinking there's probably aftermarket kits that sell lines long enough so there's no splices on long lines mid length. Wouldn't put it pass a contractor to do it down this way...state is full of those types...😒

Based on our home, we need a unit installed in joists between 2 floors. Are the Mitsubishi ceiling units able to be installed between joists that are 9.5 deep and 1/2" drywall/plaster(total of 10" ) I realize that the 16" on center joists need to be cut and headed out to accept the 4 way ceiling cassette. Does anyone make a ceiling cassette unit with what I would call an additional slave unit that could be attached to divert some air to another room? or maybe even just the ability to duct out some air from the one cassette to another room? I have a small condo with 2 rooms in the upstairs(250sqft each), so I don't need a large unit, probably a 10k-12k unit, so 2 indoor ceiling cassettes would seem to be overkill, plus the added cost.
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 4 жыл бұрын
If you have the room for a ceiling cassette, you might have enough room for a horizontal ducted unit. With the HD unit, you can add additional supply lines to bring air to different rooms. gotductless.com/products/mitsubishi-12-000-btu-horizontal-ducted-cooling-heating-system There aren't ceiling cassettes built to divert air or with the ability to duct air from one room to another.

Is there a solution to air conditioning bathrooms when you have ductless mini splits in a home??? I actually love the idea of having separate mini splits in my house that I can have individual temperature settings in each room. However I don't personally know how this kind of system can air condition individual bathrooms. Do you have a solution???? As far as I know there isn't a small enough wall unit that wouldn't be way too large for a typical bathroom. Thanks !
@dominicm2175
@dominicm2175 2 жыл бұрын
They didn’t cover ‘ducted units’ where the interior unit would either be in a concealed area or an attic or basement and then ducted to the rooms/areas.
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 7 ай бұрын
Great question! This is definitely something that is solved on a case by case basis. If it is smaller bathrooms, air would naturally circulate in there since most people leave the bathroom doors open when they are not using them. In the case of larger bathrooms, there are a variety of recommendations. If heat is the main concern, some people will put an additional electric heater to ensure that the bathroom is toasty. Or, if you have an attic above, you can put a ducted unit that dumps air into the bathroom and/or some other smaller spaces like walk-in closets. In most cases however, air naturally circulates into bathrooms when the door is left open the majority of the time. This is how most European and Asian mini split projects are designed.

Torn, center hall colonial home with 3 floors, needing 8 zones. Thinking of splitting between to condensers, left side to handle 4, and another one on the right side of the home. About 30k and 33k btu. Torn btwn Mitsubishi and LG. Price, reliability and smart home is a factor. LG has builtin Wifi, Mitsu is behind the 8 ball with there Kumo cloud, have not seen the new "2020" units yet? Leaning towards the LG line, no branch box needed too; 30k with heat pump for up to 4 zones x2. or Mitsu with a 36k unit x 2 but adds up. Thoughts, advice?
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 4 жыл бұрын
By breaking up the zones into two condensers, neither LG or Mitsubishi (depending on where you live) should need a branch box. LG is going to be less expensive, but we'd go with Mitsubishi if reliability is most important. Mitsubishi is definitely behind with the smart home technology. If your main focus is smart features & price, LG is the way to go. If the main focus is reliability, Mitsubishi is the way to go.
@cburgos2
@cburgos2 4 жыл бұрын
Got Ductless thanks for the quick reply. You guys are doing a great job! The need for the two units and branch box is because I need 4 zone and there 30k can only handle 3 (with heat pump). So I had to go to a 36k which requires a branch box. Correct? Which leads to another question. How important or smart to obtain a unit with the heat pump? Our house is current heating via boiler/steam/ radiators - no zone, just whole house.
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 4 жыл бұрын
@@cburgos2 The Mitsubishi hyper heat 4 zone would need a branch box. The four-zone baseline will work without a branch box. If you're putting splits in for mainly air conditioning (you have a boiler), more than likely you don't need the hyper heat system. Heat pump models are almost identical to the air conditioning models and are priced around the same.

Our guess is because the floor mounted unit is less popular than the wall mounted unit so they need to justify the production line time with a higher price. Cleaning a filter should be done every 45-90 days and can be done by setting up a 6 ft ladder or even using a chair if you have 8 ft ceilings.

@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 2 жыл бұрын
For multi-zoned units, they're more efficient, but not by a dramatic amount. The more indoor units you hook up to the outdoor, the less efficient it gets. Single-zoned units are very efficient and multi-zoned units can be compared to 18 SEER or greater conventional systems.

They are way more efficient. Imagine a 2 ton exterior condenser with a 14 seer rating. A 6k Mitsubishi can be a 33 seer, a 12k btu can be 26 seer. The mini splits use inverter technology, I can’t explain it, but the power consumption and efficiency is so much greater.

It’s a night and day difference. Mini splits are VRF. Meaning the unit will ramp up and down based on the load (how much heating or cooling) is needed. The LG Art system is multi-zone only and is going to take wall space. Mitsubishi's cassette system can be a single-zone system, is going to be in the ceiling, and is slightly more difficult to install.

Do all mini spilts ductless require heat pumps? (And what is a heat pump?)
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 4 жыл бұрын
Nope, there are some ductless units that are air conditioners only. A heat pump transfers heat from colder areas to warmer areas. It works basically the way an air conditioner works, but a heat pump reverses the flow of and process of refrigeration, which causes the indoor coil to heat up when needed.
@dominicm2175
@dominicm2175 2 жыл бұрын
The way I explain a Heat Pump is that it is essentially an air conditioner that has the ability to run in reverse. And most heat pumps efficiency is a product of the compressor able to run at variable speeds where as a typical air conditioner only runs at 100%. Could you imagine driving your car that way ?? ( either full throttle or coasting)

We have limitations at our home . 1970's home that the air Ducts were placed under the home (without crawl space). We've found out the ducts are deteriorating fiberglass ducts so we are forced to look for another hvac options because they might be unrepairable and location of ducts are built into the foundation. Home is single story , flat roof, ceiling is wood tongue / groove and not sure if we can install the mini split cassettes. Any thoughts and price for a home that will need 5 Cassettes and what brand do you suggest ?

It really depends on the ceiling joists you have in the house. Since your house was built in the 1970s, more than likely your joists are 16" on center. If that's the case, we'd recommend Mitsubishi one-way ceiling cassettes because they'd be simplest to install.

Hi, I'm down in Florida and was interested in the LG Art Gallery model (the one that looks like a picture frame). Your video seems to show otherwise -- have you had any experiences with customers having issues with this model?

Interesting. I thought Gree, Midia and Haier produced 99 % of all units worldwide. Why do the Japanese units say made in China?
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 6 ай бұрын
Gree, Midia, and Haier do have the majority of market share when it comes to middle of the road equipment. Most brands like Mr. Cool, GE, etc. are just white labeled Gree and Midia products. The brands featured here are considered higher end and do have their own manufacturing lines. Some Japanese manufacturers outsource production of select units to China (as well as other countries) due to part availability or logistical strategy. For example, Mitsubishi (Japanese company) manufacturers the majority of their SVZ/PVA multi-position air handlers in Mexico for shipment/sale in the USA. This is due to the logistical obstacles of shipping bulky units to the US in bulk. Hope this helps.

@@gotductlessusa Haier purchased GE in 2016. Haiers newest wall unit has a snap out squirrel cage blower. This alone resolves a major issue with wall units. it doesn't matter how they look if they don't perform to your requirements. talk about btu's and power consumption. You have focused on the most irrelevant information and now I have wasted my time. What makes any of these units "great"? so superficial
@ewicky
@ewicky 2 жыл бұрын
These units are all a similar level of efficiency, so power consumption is not a differentiator. Each system is available in a variety of BTUs, which is determined by a load calc done by the installer. More BTUs isn't necessarily more better. Load calc and system sizing is specific to the installation environment, and outside the scope of this video. If sized and installed correctly, every one of these options will perform well. Hence, it does come down to style, looks, brand name, etc
