Considering a ductless mini-split system? In 2023, the USA boasts two leading brands for these systems. If you have any questions, feel free to let us know. However, the best way to choose between the brands is to do a side-by-side comparison between products that work best for your space. This video at least gives you guidance on how to compare. Feel free to contact us at 866-399-0206.

Also worth noting is that the display on LG can be turned off. LG also has self cleaning, which dries the indoor coil prior to the louvers closing. LG is cheaper than most Japanese brands but offer the same warranty and good quality. On some Mitsubishi models, the outdoor fan will continue to run when the power is turned off, so it can cool the electronic board. Mitsubishi hyper heat has a lockout and will shut off to prevent compressor damage when its gets extremely cold. LG does not have a lockout and will continue to run.

The best DIY system you can do right now is Mr. Cool. Mitsubishi and LG are not fully DIY systems based on what the manufacturers require.

@gotductlessusa is the other two diy, if all I'd be doing is mounting it, wiring it ,but would call hvac person to connect the lines and check for leaks and such? I'm not a hvac person, but I've done wiring, plumbing, repaired all types of appliances, so wiring it wouldn't be a problem for me or getting it completely ready except for connecting refrigerant lines.

Is it overkill to use a 9k Designer Mitsubishi in a smaller room 250 s.f. or less... by calculation I believe these spaces only require a 6k unit. It is too bad the designer series starts at the 9k.. If I do use 9k am I waisting electricity in these smaller rooms by using a larger btu unit? Or if its set on low would it even matter? Another question is does Designer series have the dry cool function or whatever it is called. (To help with controlling humidity build up, I have read if you cool a space too quickly it is not good for humidity control.)
@gotductlessusa

Great question! It is not an overkill to use a 9k for a 250 square foot room or less. The 9k unit will actually do a better job of dehumidifying than the 6k if you compare data from spec sheets. If the room is very small, like 100 sq ft or less then the 9k might cool down the room too fast. In terms of electricity, it will have similar draws if the outdoor unit is the same. If the outdoor units would change then it depends on the outdoor unit. The designer unit does have a dry mode. The real difference between the units is capacity.

Is there a significant difference with quality ,efficiency, and sound? What is the difference with noise for each the inside and outside units? I have two quotes from a contractor using each system and the LG is about 5 k less than the Mitsubishi. I need to get back to them soon and I'm struggling to choose. If they are comparable then I will get the LG but it's a big long term decision.

Great questions. Quality is hard to quantify - we would say Mitsubishi has higher quality components and parts. You can see that in the indoor and outdoor unit construction. Whereas with LG, they cross parts across different types of appliances (power control board is the same in both a multi-zone outdoor and a smart refrigerator). This may speak to the efficiency of their logistics for parts but it also makes them susceptible to part failures across all their lines. Efficiency- LG shows higher efficiency metrics overall when compared to Mitsubishi for some models. This comes down to looking at model numbers case by case. LG tends to have better efficiency metrics for single zones while Mitsubishi excels in multi-zone applications. Noise- Mitsubishi is the clear and distinct winner here. Across the majority of the model numbers, Mitsubishi has lower dB levels than LG. We have both connected and running in our showroom. You can have a whisper quiet conversation next to Mitsubishi's outdoor unit at full speed with compressor on while you definitely can hear the LG system ramping up and noticeably on. At the end of the day, both brands are top of their game. The prices shouldn't be that huge of a difference (depending on apple to apple comparison). It could be that your contractor has better pricing for LG than Mitsubishi. It could be wise to get various quotes from Mitsubishi specific contractors and compare that quote to the LG quote you received from your original contractor.

@@gotductlessusa Thank you so much for your response! This was only the only comparison that I found on the two brands so I really appreciate your video and also your detailed response. I think I will go with LG just because of the rather high price difference. It sounds like that noise is the main difference between both brands but I guess I can deal with that. I checked the minimum sound level of each unit and its 19 dB and 27 dB for the Mitsubishi and LG units respectively. Thanks again for your great video!

@@stephen240 I have a horrible experiance with Mitsubishi ceiling casette! Starts from drain pump and exposing a unit into hot/cold area very very very bad idea! during a winter temp sensor picks up cold and make room so HOT just because it won't satisfy sensor. During a summer time it's otherwise in addition If you decide Stop A/C with water in a drain pan(which you'll have it anyway!), guess what happen next? pump can't get all water pull out so you will get got awful smell back into the room. that's my personal experience, I hope, it can help to someone. Why there is no video how's they operate and what's the issues is? BTW there is also a Samsung a known brand in US.

What I like on the msz-ay* series only have a non intrusive status light that you can dim down. I don't need a AC that brightens up my sleeping room with 20kw status LEDs . I don't need to know the temperature. For what? I don't need to know which mode it's running in.

That is a good point. Some people like seeing the temperature displayed while others don't for various reasons. Temperature display in a bedroom at night does sound pretty annoying.

I am not happy with my LG (from 2018), it does not heat when the weather is below 40 despite claiming it will. I would like to see a video on Mitsubishi vs Daiken.
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 5 ай бұрын
That is interesting. Have you ever had it cleaned or maintenance completed on it recently? Even the standards should heat below 32 F which makes me think there could be some inefficiencies that could be causing that.

Wow, our 8 year old Mitsubishi has been nothing but problems with multiple failures (broken as I type this) and a local Mitsu Diamond dealer whose techs are unable to repair the unit. Their solution - replace the whole thing for an obscene amount of money. As a retired electrical engineer I have gotten better at repairing it myself and at least the replacement PC boards are decently priced - which is a good thing because they fail all the time. Our house is on the ocean in WA state and after 8 years the outdoor unit has literally disintegrated away from rust while the neighbor's York outdoor unit looks almost new. If this is reliable I'd hate to see less reliable. I did a calculation and after 8 years of repair it would have been roughly the same cost to just have used resistance heat in the house being careful to heat only the rooms we are occupying. However, we do live in a moderate climate with temps seldom getting below freezing or above 80F.

Have you tried getting in contact with a Mitsu certified company that has the professionalism to get representation from Mitsubishi involved to resolve any issues you may have? This is typically through local distributors. If it is under warranty, we have seen Mitsubishi replace product that has unresolved issues rather than just forcing you to buy a replacement.

@@gotductlessusa Have you tried to call them at all? Mitsubishi support is useless, all they do is referring back to the contractor, so it's up to contractor to call for a Mitsubishi representative. IF they decided not to, oh well! That's my second season with it and I wish go to with other brand!

Hi. I need 10 mini split airconditioners 5,000 btu. My rooms are small (9sqm). 5,000 btu cools 14sqm. Anyone can help?
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 4 ай бұрын
I understand. Have you considered putting these 10 rooms on two multi-zone outdoors? The smallest indoor units you can have is 6,000 BTU. That would be the best fit for those size rooms.

Do you think a 4 zone mitsubishi hyper heat set up could be a DIY project?
@olegshvets
@olegshvets 8 ай бұрын
Anything can be a DIY project nowadays, considering how much useful info you can find online. All depends on your skill level and the professional tools you can afford for this kind of project. But keep in mind, the Mitsu 4-zone hyper heat is a branch box type system, which makes it more complicated to install to begin with. Also, the condenser is pre-charged with R410a only for itself, and when you have everything connected and after you're done with a good pressure test (at least 350psi dry nitrogen) and triple vacuum (down to under 500 micron) it is time to charge your system with the additional R410a, that you have to calculate by formulas. The amount will depend on the connected capacity and the length of the refrigerant lines. Also, no guarantee that you can get the R410a if you're not a certified HVAC contractor who is allowed to purchase this regulated refrigerant. Better trust this install to professionals, or go with the MrCOOL DIY system instead.
@gotductlessusa
@gotductlessusa 8 ай бұрын
Mitsubishi wants a pro licensed and certified contractor to be able to do the installation in order to qualify for the warranty (Mitsubishi can limit their liabilities that way). However, you can partner with a licensed contractor to have them complete the skill-required aspects to ensure the system qualifies for warranty while you complete the more labor intensive tasks. A 4 zone hyper heat system does require a branch box which adds complexity - if you are investing a lot of money into buying a system, you want to make sure it's installed correctly.
