This Technique Tuesday video demonstrates four options for stacked vertical double increases: K1, YO, K1; Central Double Increase (CDI); Double Lifted Increase; and Double Knit Below Increase. Each of these double increases creates a strong vertical stitch line that the two increases grow out of. These types of increases are often used in chevron designs, offset by double decreases in a nearby vertical column, but they can be used in other sorts of projects, as well. Written instructions for each type of increase are further down in the video description.

Thanks! Your videos are so easy to understand, and I always recommend them! I recognized the double increase-row below from Barbara G. Walker's book, "Knitting from the Top." She has ten methods, all meant for the raglan increases in a top down seamless sweater. I've used the four methods in your video, which really helps to simplify the process It's always great to try different methods for doing routine actions in our knitting.

Just saw this tonight. You made a video of double stacked increases! The complexity of the maneuvering is hard to understand without a demonstration. I can't tell you how grateful I am. Struggling as I was, I felt a little like a monkey at a typewriter: I'd get there eventually, probably in another lifetime. Thank you! You are so generous!

Thanks again Roxanne, I always appreciate your comparaisons of the various methods for knitting something. Your big swatches are very helpful to visualise the result on many rows. Gratitude !

I've been using the lifted increase when my pattern calls for an M1L or M1R instead of lifting the middle bar. It's more invisible for toe-up socks I've never used a pattern that calls for double increases so thank you for demonstrating each option.

Lifted increases are also great for side-by-side increases, when you need two increases between two columns of sts.

I’m trying to figure out how to create volume straight away from a firmer line…. I am working with a light and airy hand spun wool and have created a decorative piece and next I would like to have a ‘ruffle’ type volume (like a skirt from a tight band). How would I achieve this?

Would I have to do a short row type of structure to achieve this ? I haven’t a clue. Just an idea and I am not having success in finding the answers on my own.

In sewing I would gather the material as I sewed like a ruffle. How do I create a ruffle, I guessing should be my question 😊

A bunch of increases, working a kfb into each stitch, and possibly working a following row or two with more increases, maybe not doubling every row that you work increases, but you'd want to swatch it out to see how much ruffling you'd need to get the effect. If you know how wide you want the resulting fabric to be relative to the initial fabric, that will help you figure out the total amount of increasing you need to do, and then it's a matter of distributing that in volume over a few rows.

Eh, maybe I'll stick with two kfb's one after the other 😅
