My kinda first car was a white 65 Mustang 289 2V, I paid $15. For it. Me and 6 kids pushed it 2 blocks to get it to my mom's house. When I got there Mom said you're to young to buy a car. So I sold it for $40. To another school friend the car needed a battery and a carb. He got it running a few days later with my help. He was 15 and was only allowed to go up and down his driveway. A few months later it got a rod knock.

300 hp may seem ho hum to some, but do the power to weight on a 2900 lb car and it's alright... plus, like you said, 300 hp is something you can drive every day and you won't get eaten out of house and home.... everyone wants 1500 hp until they need to gas it up and maintain it.

as a long hot rodder. 50 years. my advice to you is dont worry about the hp. unless you are wealthy you will always be outclassed by car owners who have a bigger budget to spend on cars. been there done that, mustangs have always been my favorite . ive been blessed to have many examples in my lifetime focus on the fact you own a classic car . make it what you want but dont think you have a speed demon. jmop looks and a good sounding ride was my aim . youll save money and be happy. good luck my young friend. thanks for the vid

@@gordocarbo I built a 5.0 with Edelbrock heads in the mid 90s for a guy, and put a centrifugal supercharger on it, then dropped it in his 89 convertible Fox. It ran quite well, almost as fast as my mid 11 second 455 powered 79 Formula. I have a slightly larger version of Big Chief's engine from Street Outlaws in one of my Pontiacs, a 68 LeMans, his is a 4" stroke, mine is 4.25" otherwise its almost exactly like his iron block engine. Mine is getting a 6-71 this year, for science. 7psi would be around 1000hp/tq. Boost makes a big difference.

My first car was a '65 Mustang GT, 289 4V from the factory. I probably already mentioned it in a previous video. Ended up overhauling it and putting a mild Melling cam in it, and AFX headers. I paid $500 for it in 1973. I remember ordering the headers from JC Penney for $75! Yea, that was another world away. I want my current Mustang, a '73 Mach 1 to sound like yours! Gonna take a lot more $$$ this time around though! PS, my '65 was the same color yours used to be (lol) with white vinyl top and pony interior.

I'd feel kinda miffed if one of my Pontiacs made that much, but they are also at least 100cubes larger, most of them are 455s or stroked 400 blocks that are now 461-467ci. Your car sounds good even rolling off idle. Almost has a big block deep throaty sound at lower RPM. Does the FiTech make it easy to tune for E85? It'd be cool to see the difference if so. Love the build. I have two of these cars. Seems like an optimistic dyno. Stock heads suck on the 289, unless they have the heart shaped combustion chamber and ported to the max. 300hp should be good for mid-13s at the track with a good tire, I say take it out there and let it rip for the next video. One of my cars has almost this exact same build with a carb and it runs mid 14s, so probably in the mid 200s at the crank.

Hey I have a 66 coupe and ready to pick tires and wheels. What size do you suggest?

Very healthy small block with street manors. Hopefully, fuel economy will increase with the EFI. It would be nice to know before and after since some folks with EFI claim poor fuel economy.

You should run it on 87, 93, and e85. Compare on the dyno and review them after daily driving (including mpg).

I know people are saying "Only 255HP ( 300 at the crank )" but thats a sub 2600 pound car. I owned a 289 65 mustang and 0-60 is done in sub 6 seconds in those cars. Think about that for a minute. To the owner of this car. Ditch those rims. Friends Dad is a insurance investigator and he saw those rims ALL the time ... Broken. I had a set ( this was 20+ years ago ) and when he saw them he was like " You know those rims "break" right? lol He showed me like 30 photos of them where they sheared off the Barrel.

very impressive power for a 289! There is no way even a bored 289 block give so much power, even with modern intake and cam changed because the engine must breathe. Your heads have been ported for sure, maybe bigger valves.

What kind of gearing do you have in the rear? That makes a big difference too. Now that you have been bitten by the power bug, time to start saving for all the goodies. Maybe a huffer or turbo. Those butterflies sticking above the hood really look cool! Once my son got 400hp to the wheels, his bank account started draining. Keep banging those gears.

@@FourSpeedFilms that's a pretty good setup for street and mileage. Of course, transmission and tire size also affects performance. It all depends what you want out of the car. The sky's the limits.

Cool video, 255 Horsepower at the rear wheels is not bad. How much compression do you have? What Camshaft are you using? At what type of mufflers are you running, I ran FlowMaster dual chamber on my past 1966 A code Mustang Fastback and they were a bit too loud for me, I wish I could have fit three chamber FlowMaster's. Magna Flow's are also nice sounding, and sound mellow at idle. To use Flex fuel E85 don't you need a Stainless Steel or Plastic Gas Tank so you don't corrode the factory steel one?

I was gonna go holly sniper, maybe Ill check these out!! Dude hell yes wanna see flex fuel. Holly sniper you have to increase the displacement to get it correct, so is there an E85 setting???
@FourSpeedFilms
@FourSpeedFilms Жыл бұрын
I believe you have to increase displacement by 30% on FiTech too.

I'd set my RPM limiter to 5500, it will be nice to see a 3 month up date, as far as gas mileage goes & the noticeable HP response.
