Thanks for the detailed and informative video. I’m tackling the trim on my notchback this weekend. Replacing the front window trim with new. Cleaning up and repainting the rear trim. With any luck it won’t take me longer than the weekend 😅

I ended up using the small pick to remove mine after I took out a small shell in the edge of the windshield. I preferred this method cause I could see the tool behind the clip. I didn't grind the tips on the removal tool which would have definitely helped.

Yeah I pulled mine of to paint and to replace the windshield weather stripping I have a convertible between the outside ,visors and inside trim and having apart for 2 weeks good god it was like a puzzle putting it back together lol

Thank you for the vid, very helpful and shows how the clips latch on. Just be careful putting a metal tool on any older glass because it can chip and crack very easily. I found on my 69 GTX that like you were saying all the dirt under the chrome rails makes the clips hard to release. On a whim I sprayed WD40 under the chrome rails and it loosened the dirt and lubed the clips. Just a thought worth trying. Mike :)

I have this same tool, these close ups help but also makes me wonder. I learned a lesson when pulling the trim off my wagon that you don't want to twist. If this were over metal it would put dents in the sheet metal.. ask me how I know. That aside I think if the tool were left (unmodified) and flat at the tip and pulled parallel to the trim it would hook into the middle of the clip, then rotating the handle (clocking like turning a lever, not twisting) it would compress the clip and pull it out of the channel with the trim. Think of it as a spring compressor and your compression point is the arched middle of that clip. You essentially pull both top and bottom away from holding position. I think your way might be deforming the clip. The reason the tool has that arched top is that its a rotation and leverage point and that way it doesn't stab into the trim and create a dent there from the inside. If I can hunt it down in my boxes of parts I'll give this a try and report back. Great video either way, learning a lot. Look at 10:24 in your video and imagine instead of trying to reach up into the trim over that lip, instead sliding into the part of the sprung arch. Curious to hear your thoughts. Plenty of ways to skin a cat and way can work too.

Those clips are a pain for sure. Dread them every time. When you have the trim pieces off you can make a template of them out of cardboard and mark the notches in the trim on rhe template. You can then tape them on any other car and it will let you know where the clips are already. Makes it a little easier so you know exactly where to start working the tool.

The most important part of the rear trim removal is to not damage it since it’s not available anywhere like all the other trim molding is. Found out the hard way after mine was painted last year . The lower part was stuck in the glass glue from the factory and was damaged when removed. Took more a year to track some down and people ask a a lot for it
