For people complaining about the steel : the blades are surplus German Navy knife blades. Years ago the German Navy ordered a certain type of nautical knife at Fox, these were surplus leftover blades they found in their warehouse recently. They decided to make a series of knives with these blades. Hence the name "nauta". So it's cool to have and the steel is what it is. But you can buy one overhere for 50 bucks so I don't think it is overpriced for the steel at all. It is supposed to be 420hc. If it's good enough for the German navy, it's good enough for me ;)

I wasn't aware they used existing surplus! They must have had a lot lying around, makes this knife a lot cooler! Thank you!

@@UKLegalCarryKnives : what I read is that they made lots of spares for replacement (waranty) purposes. It was a government order so I think they just make a whole bunch of extra blades just to make sure.

Good to see the lanyard hole going through the back spring. I've just received the Brother 1508 which has the 'additional utility' of being able to chop your lanyard if you depress the blade too far. That fox looks like a good work-a-day knife. The handle reminds me of the lovely Le Thiers pattern.

The 1508 is nice... I could do with your help, as I have just started reviewing myself and would welcome your insight on how to improve my reviews & what else you would like me to include, if possible. I am looking for a few regular people, who are fair and balanced in their comments... Cheers brother 👍

@@gadgetgus How about an occasional series on pocket knife craft. I see an army of KZfaqrs describing what they are holding in their hands, but I've yet to see one describe the etiquette for passing it to another person. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

@@ianrosie4431 Good idea... I've just started, but definitely a good one for the future 👍 what I can say is I've always offered the handle first with the blade 'UP', so when they 'drawn' it from you, it will not cut you. That is the way I was taught by my grandad, who remembers the Japanese surrendering in Burma with a 'mountain' of samari swords - so he kept one as a souvenir...

Wonder if you'll ever take a look at the Spydie Squeak? Probably not your speed Al as you seem such a fan of the bigger UKPKs and Urbans but I gotta say the Squeak has been my favourite EDC for about 6 months now. Very compact carry, inoffensive blade, fits in women's jean pockets and it's so light I forget I've got it on me a lot of the time, especially with the pocket clip off. Can get a full 4-finger grip with my small hands at least and because the blade is short it's very stout with a sharp taper. It's the only slipjoint in my collection I would feel comfortable batoning with, could probably cut down a tree with how solid it feels in the hand. Might take a while though 😂

It's definitely on my radar, I figured viewers would be disinterested fornthe most part as its mostly a smaller Urban which I've already reviewed, I might yet review one anyway though!

@@UKLegalCarryKnives Yeah I see what you mean, shame Spyderco doesn't have more variety right now for slippies. There used to be so much more interesting and creative designs imo, such a shame they discontinued the slipjoint Kiwi and the Pingo.

A nice looking knife but a tad overpriced considering the disappointing blade steel, why anyone uses 420C at 54-56 HRC now when something like 12C27 is so widely available on cheaper knives is beyond me. There are cheaper knives with VG10.

Agreed, a better steel would have been very compelling.
