Hello, it's been a while! Today we'd like to discuss the role that foxes have played in mythology and folklore around the world. From El Zorro to Disney's Zootopia, have you noticed how much foxes resemble each other? When and how did they become the animal most associated with treachery and greed? What other archetypes exist for our favorite cat-like canid? We would like to find out!
First part will only focus on the American continent, where we take a look at old fairy tales, Native American stories, and archeological evidence presented to you in short animations.

Hello! We hope you enjoyed this first part in a two part series about everyone's favorite trickster animal. I would like to clarify a few things before moving on: 1) The act of stealing may not necessarily make the Andean Fox a trickster. We'll remove it from the category if that is the consensus. 2) This video is more for entertainment purposes than educational. 3) We have a great love and respect for other indigenous cultures and meant no offense when making this video.

It's an interesting video & will wait for part 2 (though I don't really understand why to point this as entertainment with its informative besides perhaps the debates over the cultural or charting bars of indexing the foxl

there's another myth about fox stealing fire, where there's a world of fire above the earth and hummingbird shoots his arrows into the sky where they get stuck, all animals climb up except bear, as he was too heavy and they see a great fire with people dancing around it, headdresses ablaze, coyote does the same thing as in the fire story here except with his headdress, coyote pulls the same fire passing stunt and they escape the sky world. pretty similar in the 2nd half but i thought it was unique enough to mention, if you wanna know where i got that from, voices of the wind. super good book with a bunch of myths from a bunch of different tribes, would highly recommend for anyone intrested.

My father used foxes and coyotes interchangebly to mean the same animal (Even though they are not). He feared them and saw them as a bad omen.

This was very interesting, as I was researching the mythology behind the fox after watching Chainsaw Man anime and seeing many red foxes in my area. I hope you make a part two. Have you thought of including foxes and their folklore from Asian (Middle Eastern, East Asian), European, African cultures? That would cover every continent. Also from a quick google search, I found Australia (since it's considered a continent) didn't originally have any foxes, and they are now considered an invasive species in Australia even though they were introduced ON PURPOSE to the continent in the 1830s-1850s. So it seems like foxes would be a bad omen in Australia. But hopefully if you produce a part 2, you can find more solid research than I did. Great video!

I half remember a myth I heard when I was a kid about why we have the day night cycle. Long ago the sun would only cover half of the planet and those who lived in the light prospered. Meanwhile in the darkness a group of animals lead by a lion were struggling. The sun wouldn't move from its spot and so one by one different animals volentered to travel to the light side and steal a piece of the sun. First was the Bald Eagle who was able to get a speck of sunlight and tried carrying it with his beak. But mid flight it fell onto its forehead burning up and giving the Bald Eagle its white feathers. From here the other animals tried and failed until the last animal successfully stole a speck of sunlight which the animals used to make a fire. Apon noticing the fire the sun gave chase to the theif but was eluded, and so it continues its search to this day. I know that one of the animals was the fox but I don't remember if he was successful or not although considering that each animal which failed also got a part of their body burned white like the Bald Eagle my best guess says he didnt.

I really am questioning why foxes are “ENTP, mischievous tricksters, intellegent”. Hell, even the fox miraculous grants the power of illusion in miraculous ladybug. i don’t know how they earned it. But it’s why they are my spirit animals.
