I could totally picture him playing this song in an Irish pub as the Sons seat in a back booth discussing business with McGee or Jimmy O in season three of the Sons :-D

Shazam brought me here :0). No, Shazam let me hear Ed Sheeran's version, then I heard Matt McAndrew's version at The Voice. And Rolling Stone magazine disclosed who the author was. So, that's why I am here. Hail to Foy Vance!!! And huge thanks for sharing this video!

When a singer sings like that and a lyric scratching a gospel song like this one. The result is a small taste of the real gospel. Great song and interpretation.

the Tom Waits tune isn't even close to the same song ... they only things they have in common are the name of the song, that someone sings it, that there's music behind the vocals, and that they're both sort of 'bluesy'

I wanna start by saying I love the song, but....Does anyone know the song's meaning? I try to wrap my head around it but I don't entirely get it. English is not really my first language so there may be something i'm missing. To be honest I don't even get if "make it rain" refers to money or something completely diferent(which is what i suspect). That may show to anyone willing to answer my lvl of understanding. Anyway ty in advance and imo a great great song.
@brodylockwood149 жыл бұрын
Well i think it may have something to do with third world countries like africa because he says the seed needs the water before it grow out of the the ground the he says it just keeps getting hard, and hunger more profound. And then he says make it rain down lord. So it could have something to do starvation and limited water source in places like africa.
@jeramieanderson23658 жыл бұрын
I'm a year late on the reply, but here is the explanation if you have not figured it out. The song is about a man struggling with his past and who he is. For example he is talking about the sins of his father and pain of his mother, or how his life just keeps getting harder. Now both biblically and in life fire has a destructive and transforming property. God used fire raining from the sky to punish Egypt, and to free the Jewish slaves in the bible. Thus the line in the song I know there can come fire from the sky. In life farmers for example use fire to destroy old crops. But afterwards the soil is more fertile than it was before. So in the song the man is asking for god to figuratively make it rain fire on his life. To destroy who he was, and change him into a new and better person.

The wounds run deep for generations. You take the pain to the grave. There is no rest in peace for sometimes it comes back. Let it rain and wash it all away but it can't. The hopelessness of a dog on a chain for all their life, the cow in a slaughter truck, the child abducted, raped and murdered, the hate because one's skin, features and beliefs are different, the evil runs so deep it can never rain hard enough to wash it away. I am done with this world. I've been done with it for a long, long time. Welsh woman born and bred 1961 now living in Sturgis, South Dakota USA HELL ON EARTH. Britain said the rise of the 3rd Reich would happen in the USA and it has with Trump, same hate, same propaganda, same low life types that believe the bullshit. Let it rain here and wash them all away. I'm done.

Is he just pretending to play along to a pre-recorded track? If not, who is playing guitar at 2:33?
@andrewcojocarescu93159 жыл бұрын
He is using a looper pedal. He records a track on that pedal and when he turns it on, it will loop whatever he recorded. It is useful for if you want to make complex thing, or solo. Ed Sheeran uses them too when he sings live.
