Excellent movie once you start watching you won't be able to stop. Janis Carter started out looking for a career in Opera and was discovered for film - This low budget film is a real gem. Janis real last name was Dremann but people had trouble pronouncing it so she changed it to her grandmother's maiden name Carter

Note to self-- when your brakes fail, use the engine brake- i.e., put it in low gear, (standard AND automatic) even if it rips the transmission out. It won't come to a stop but it will slow it right down. Then turn the engine off -- might keep you from getting killed.

A true gemstone! I liked the getting-up scene from 20:07 onward much. And I as a German understand now what the word "framed" means. In this context it means "trapped" or "caught in an evilly planned trap". Before I understood, I had been wondering all the time what in the world a framed person had to do with a picture frame? ;-))
@DavidRice1113 жыл бұрын
Actually, a more precise definition is when a criminal paints an innocent person as the guilty party.
@sharegreats21573 жыл бұрын
That helped me, thanks!

It means falsely set up as the perpetrator of a crime, to be more exact. An idiom developed from the idea of a picture frame.

Pretty sad that the woman betrayed herself for love of a man, who then betrayed her. Hollywood 1940s portrayed women as emotional slaves to the man they loved. Of course, she was evil, but I would prefer she brought about her undoing, because she was downright evil - not because she fell for the wrong guy.

I don't want to include any spoilers since there aren't any in the comments, so I will speak cryptically. For me the movie was spoiled by the final switch by Paula at the climax, which was simply too unbelievable for me, as nothing in the film to that point would make that kind of switch sensible. Even the desire of a scriptwriter for a great twist must be justified by everything that happened beforehand. As for the acting, Glenn Ford is as great and cool as always, but Janis Carter did a pretty lousy acting job in my book.

So that was quite the twist when she killed Pence instead of Mike. BUT. Did she do it because she fell in love with Mike? Or because she wanted the money all to herself? Her behavior didn't quite make sense, which, for me, took away from what was a pretty awesome movie. Her behavior suggested that she did fall in love with Mike, otherwise she would have gotten rid of him. BUT, if she DID fall in love with him, how could she have let him go on thinking that he had killed Pence? It doesn't all add up. Unless it's that I'm trying to understand a sociopath ... something we non-sociopaths can drive ourselves nuts trying to do ...
