The importance of entrance in garden design is well known. Here in this video, I am trying to create an entrance to my back patio. 2 spiraeas will do the job, framing the view of my dining area. Happy gardening!

I would love to see how you go about creating your trellis and garden structures. Your garden is so whimsical and very similar to my space. I'm in year two and gradually adding plants I love.

I just planted a Charlene De Monaco rose shrub that I fell in love with at the nursery. It's a hybrid tea rose with chaliced blossoms in a beautiful shade of powdery, shell pink.

I've found honeyberries have a super short growing season and pretty much stop growing by mid July in our area. Planting them in part shade helps keeps the leaves from getting really bad sunburn but they always looks a little ratty by the end of the season. This is especially true of older cultivars like berry blue and borealis (mr/mrs. honeyberry). Some of the newer varieties and the ones with Japanese genetics stay lookin fresher longer-- they can handle heat better. Cant wait to see how this garden room progresses! As always wonderful videos.

How are honey berries with the harvest? Wonderful message!

@@OlgaCarmody unfortunately my bushes are still only 3 years old so I'm not sure what their harvest are really like. I think I should get about a pint this year off my oldest bush. Last year I got a handful of berries off of "Mrs. Honeyberry" and the taste was fantastic. They remind me a lot of a "blue raspberry" flavor.

That is my azalea, which I wouldn’t recommend, since after blooming it is covered with brown aged blossoms and I have to manually take them down.

I'm a little confused. I grow Honeyberries and you need two different varieties and they both produce fruit. I don't need a "male" plant. I bought plants about same size as you have and they produced huge crop 2nd year and every year since. They are flowering right now and covered with bees - you will have plenty of berries for your children with 4 plants.

Honey-berries do need male and female plants to produce a crop. Maybe some of your neighbors have male plant growing... I can't wait for the crop to come. My front ones are still babies.

@@OlgaCarmody I don't have any close neighbors - live out in country. I bought these plants locally and . Honeyberries require cross pollination because the male and female reproductive organs develop at different times, so you need at least 1 to 5 different varieties for production of berries.

@@cynthiahamblin-perry5880 hm, interesting, I really don’t know. I will keep this story in my mind and will ask or research it.

Honeyberries are indeed hermaphroditic, having both male stamens and female pistils within the same flower. The plants are not dioecious. The confusion might have stemmed from the fact that honeyberries are genetically self incompatible, thus needing pollen from a genetically distinct individual of the same species to set fruit. In a sense they are similar to most apples, pears, and some sweet cherries. So it's normal to observe fruit on both honeyberry bush.

I was considering planting honey berries because i would imagine they are an easy alternative to blueberries. So far my blueberries are doing well. Rabbits come out and around the yard, but they have yet to chew them. So next spring ,i will try honeyberries.

You must have very acidic soil, John, or did you condition it for blueberries?
