Jolie vidéo. Et merci à toutes les associations ferroviaires qui à travers la France restaurent et conservent le patrimoine du chemin de fer de notre pays. Et, j'invite chacun à faire une petite visite à la Cité du Train de Mulhouse.

Did i spot an exposed rotating vertical shaft in the engineer's cabin? (when you spoke about the clutch) ... Seems like the perfect place to get a trouser leg's cloth caught up in a spinning shaft and have some skin sheared off your shin!

Yes, it's an auxiliary shaft driving the Flaman speed indicator and recorder, the large box in front of the driver with a rotating crank on its left side

Fantastic, my favourite railcar. I saw a static Picasso at the Vallee de L'Aa in 2017 (XBD 3853) and one at the Cite Du Train at Mulhouse. I so want to travel on one of these, and didn't know that the Vallee de L'Aa had one working. Next time in France I will try and get on board. Thanks for posting

Very well engineered train and awesome video. Would have been nice if you had videoed your brother actually changing gears. This train reminds me of our Class 205 thumper in the UK which came into service in 1957, it also had windows into the engine room but was Diesel-Electric, being a later design and Southern Region (it was basically an existing Southern Region 3rd rail electric train but with a Diesel Generator set added and 3rd rail current collection equipment removed). Being placed into service so early these trains worked amongst Steam locomotives which were very much still in use in the UK (the last steam-hauled service trains on the standard gauge mainline of the British Railways network ran in August 1968). You can see them here on KZfaq - if interested search `Class 205 thumper'. Also Northern Ireland had their own version - if interested search `Northern Ireland Railways 80 class'.

SNCF tested various "light" designs, essentially based on buses construction techniques, but was unhappy with that. They went for a "heavy" railcars, more akin to trains. It was more expensive, required bigger engines, but was more rugged in case of an accident and could haul dedicated passenger cars, or even standard passenger cars in case of need.. It could withstand higher shocks and did not have to be written off if shocked by another train or obstacle at moderate speed, unlike "light" railcars. It was also reparable. It was also designed for a longer lifetime of 30 years.
