We begin in France, where French President Emmanuel Macron has defended his decision to call snap elections.
It comes just days after he dissolved France's lower house of parliament. His centrist coalition suffered a resounding defeat in Sunday's EU elections against the far-right National Rally.
In his first press news conference since calling for a new poll, he explained why he had no choice.

Macron's opponent publicly said she would stop aid to Ukraine if elected. Meanwhile German voters have expressed their anger at the Greens for Analena saying she doesn't care what her german voters think, she supports Ukraine. While the US did finally send 60B to Ukraine, there's a real possibility that's the last big chunk of military aid. If France and Germany decide not to support Ukraine, the few remaining war hawks in Europe will feel very lonely.

Macron is definitely hated by many; I would be surprised though if people on the left would actually vote Le Pen just to spite Macron. They're better off voting for a party on the left to create a buffer against Le Pen and Macron.

The right way to counter the extreme right? I thought it was an election? If enough people vote for something, it happens, right? Either through direct Democracy or indirect representation, right (Republic)? So why is everyone publicly trying to "counter" groups of voters all the time? What is the difference between a man with a gun standing at the ballot box and a man who litigates and regulates the ballot itself? Both of them making sure you either vote the way they want you to vote or not at all... What's the point?

He will still remain in power. The elections are for parliament. Also, in France it's a custom that the president remains in control (for the most part) of foreign policy while parliament focuses on domestic issues.
