Born in the heart of New York City, Bavier initially set her sights on a career in teaching, but fate had other plans. Graduating from the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she dazzled audiences on Broadway and made her mark on the silver screen. Bavier's talent knew no bounds as she graced countless TV shows and movies, leaving her mark on Hollywood.
When the role of Aunt Bee came her way, Bavier nearly turned it down. The character didn't immediately captivate her, but a trip to the South changed everything. Experiencing the charm and authenticity of the region firsthand, she realized the true essence of the character and embraced the role with open arms.
Behind the scenes, however, Bavier and Andy Griffith, the star of the show, had a complex relationship. Their differing work styles and personalities created tension on set. Bavier's professionalism clashed with Griffith's spontaneous approach, and their off-screen interactions were far from the warm connection they portrayed on screen.
But their differences didn't hinder the show's success. In fact, the tension between them added an intriguing layer to their on-screen chemistry, captivating viewers. While their relationship remained strained, Bavier's final gesture of reaching out to Griffith before her passing revealed a deeper understanding and closure.
Step into the world of Frances Bavier, where the on-screen warmth of Aunt Bee contrasts with the complexities behind the scenes. Uncover the untold story of her true feelings about Andy Griffith and explore the lasting impact of her iconic portrayal.

Even when I was little I always wondered why her accent didn't fit the rest of the family. She has a very haughty New England accent very much in the mold of Eleanor Roosevelt from whom many women of her era modeled their voice.

One of the best TV series of all time! Wholesome and hilarious! All the actors were fabulous. Anything that went on behind the scenes never affected the show negatively. I still watch it today and laugh my head off. Just the best of the best in television the likes of which we may never see again! Love "The Andy Griffith Show" forever!!!

"Aint" Bea was a pain in the butt. She wouldnt get the freezer fixed (Call The Man!), she took bootlegger Mr. Frisby's side over Andy trying to reposess his property, she gave Andy grief for not showing enough interest and then showing too much interest in his cousin Gloria, among other episodes where she was just plain annoying.

Wow, I did know she was that arrogant and rude. Near death makes you look about what you did wrong and to whom you did it to. I'm glad she made amends, before her death. I still enjoyed the show and her endearing role as Aunt Bee, but it was Barney and Andy that carried the show. They kept us all in stitches. Rip for all of them and long live Ron Howard, who became an outstanding director.

She wasn't Ahnt Bee, she was Ant Bee. I don't guess you get that. This is especially puzzling given that you focus so much on character. Think, for a moment, what it would have meant had she been called Ahnt Bee on the air. My point is the character was "Ant Bee."

It’s Bahveeay. French not Bayvee ER. And she’s Ant Bea not Ont Bea. It’s regional but Ant was her region. I like these but check pronunciation. They also pronounced Jacqueline Bisset as Bissette. It rhymes with “kiss it.” Biss it. I saw her tell Johnny Carson how to pronounce it properly back in the 70’s.

Delicious pies but awful pickles, lol. FB was a great actress. Her choice to play Aunt Bee, while on the surface may have seemed curious, FB played the character extremely well. I cannot imagine anyone else delivering the same performances. But given her background, as detailed in this video, depict FB and the others as oil and water personalities, etc. But, I had read about her mending the past with AG, and from watching other FV videos was aware she apologized to AG before her death, and hopefully AG knew all along FB was not as acidic as she may have come across behind the scenes. TAGS is a classic 50s early 60s TV sit-com, perhaps the best, and likely the top 3 of all the classics of that time. It was a great era for TV from The Daily Thomas Show, I Love Lucy, the Honeymooners, TAGS, etc. and lead the way to next era of great classics, mid to late 60s and 70s, and then beyond. The scene was set, so to speak. To have a great series you needed several, well developed characters in the show, good acting, great writing and production.

I don’t miss a day of watching the shows reruns. Pipe was my favorite because even though he was a child he had more sense than some of the adults especially when Andy thought he did wrong. If I had to pick a less favorite it would be Barney Fife because he was always sticking his nose in Andy’s love life by putting out the wrong news and thinking he was an expert about things and people. Always saying Andy is engaged or tagging in Andy dating business. He was so busy in being in Andy’s business that’s why him and Thelma Lou didn’t get married.
