Yes Subway is now out of control, we went from $5 footlong to paying well over $12 for a footlong. You're forgetting that the corporation isn't the one paying. The franchisee must pay for payroll, local taxes, etc....Then he pays the franchisor (McDonald's) rent on a triple-net basis, with 10% increases every 5 years. Then he pays for his food costs from a McDonald's commissary. Then the owner pays for continually required renovations. McDonald's is picking up 55% of the recent upgrades required, but a small owner with only one store is losing money. So....considering, I guess $20 for a crummy burger isn't such a surprise.

I can marinate it in advance in terikayi sauce and spices and smoke it with fruit wood on my grill. I cannot go to a restaurant for that kind of meal. We don't have $200 apiece for a meal. Just for shits and giggles on the side I marinated some chuck steak. Thin, so that came in off the grill first, for Memorial Day. We almost filled up on munching slices of that over the sink. And for $18 you get two big burritos with the fixings, chips, salsa and queso dip. And the food isn't loaded with preservatives because they use the regional food service providers.
