The Frederick Bogk House is the only single-family residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the city of Milwaukee. This video explores the house through interviews with preservationist and Bogk House owner (1955 - 2023) Barbara Elsner and Architectural Historian Richard Cleary. Part house history, part family history, this is a fascinating look at an architectural icon as well as a key figure in Milwaukee's preservation movement.

I was disappointed when this video ended. I could have enjoyed five more hours of interview with this fine woman and showing us more about the home. She’s definitely leaving a legacy behind with her accomplishments.

Truly Incredible Documentary. Thank you so much for sharing. I had seen a handful of pictures and reproductions of drawings for the Bogk House over the years but had no idea. So amazing How great Art can inculcate great taste in people who are open to receive the Inspiration. Mrs. Elsner likely would have found her calling similar whether her and her husband had purchased the house or not. So many happy coincidences that they did. And the fact that the collaboration that existed between Frank Lloyd Wright and the Bogks has continued through the stewardship of the property by the Elsners (even in spite of the unfortunate fact of Wright not having taken the time to meet the Elsners and posthumously). As well as to generally being the impetus for a veritable diaspora of good works. Truly an incredible woman. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and all of us passionate about Frank Lloyd Wright and historic preservation (Our collective cultural heritage) in general are so much the better for her and her husband. thank you again.

Indeed a wonderful woman to come along to grasp the historical history of Frank Lloyd Wright. And to dedicate her life to future generations to realize that great Architecture is everything. That and kindness. God bless.

The tiles are Ludowici tiles. I successfully repaired a porch of these tiles originally built 1914. The glazed quarry tiles are not available, but we altered the cosmetics of new tiles and used custom glaze to obtain the green verde of the porch trivets.

Web technologies help us now mix all kind of interests, such iconic locations might become cycling races datings as well, discovering hidden beauties out there in the deep America pushing pedals is... heavenly bliss friends. A genius architect is not only a guy gifted to build up spectacular structures, but a huge inspiration of life, a new point of view, a new way on managing the inner resources. Most people is not used to dig deep in their inner feelings to pull out spectacular things.. well, I do believe, any single individual is holding within a huge treasure, just willing to let it surface and shine like a diamond 🎉❤🎉

Perhaps Wright’s only true interest was aspect-situating a building as an object in a landscape. To that end he ignored conventional notions of human comfort, like light, space, and accommodation, and instead played with “features” that actually restrict occupants’ freedom. What a drag.

It is a conflict if the home is not accommodating and we are forced to make awkward accomodations for our comfort. Everyday homes are easier to modify for our needs. I guess it's a drag when the design is finite and rigid as well as forced on the occupant. FLW did however open eyes more than anyone since?

Thanks to Ms Barbara. She is famous in her own right. As much of a pioneer as the architect.

@@gregpendrey6711 You understand and clarify my reaction to a specimen of this remarkable architect’s work. I think conflict and discomfort, inherent in his designs, remove them from serious consideration as domiciles. Shelter, safety and comfort are the traditional priorities, more easily achieved through vernacular styles, but Wright’s “modern” generation preferred visionary projects and adventures in the arts.

@@BarlowPalminteriHow many Wright houses have you been inside? I have been in a few, and his spaces flow from one to the other in a very soothing way.
