Frank Ocean managed to make a weird ass album so universally loved. If that’s not impressive, idk what is! He manages to experiment with the song structure and the production of the songs, but keeps the writing and vocals honest and emotional.

You said Godspeed sounded familiar and I'm willing to bed you've heard James Blakes cover of it (pretty sure he co wrote it). Also, that last part is especially sad now since its Frank's little brother Ryan (the one who you talked about picking the best version of White Ferrari) doing the interviews at the end but he recently died in a car crash.

this album came out around the time i was coming to terms w my sexuality, and it may just be me, but seigfried felt to me like he wasn’t BRAVE enough to come out, hence thinking about the nuclear family life and the id do anything for you but only in the dark

I was so surprised of seeing this in my notifs!!!!!! I had to download the audio to listen to it like a podcast cause I had to leave for work. Such good reaction as always, Fern💓 Sadly, Ryan (Frank's brother) passed away on 2020 in a car accident. He was a big part of the album and of Frank's music in general. Ryan's the one talking in the outro of Futura Free btw, and as you read he was a voice Frank would listen to when taking choices

ok just watched it. Yeah I didn’t realise who he was talking about, I thought he was talking about another rapper and people thought they looked alike ! Now I know it’s his brother I’m like oh fuck … makes more sense . Now I just look dumb saying what I said but that’s my bed to lay in 😅 thanks though , so glad you enjoyed the video and could hopefully see I just didn’t know what I was talking about !! lol no worries, i’m not offended just offering to educate. also, seems like you still didn’t understand the reference; it’s about trayvon martin. an iconic shooting where a 17 year old black kid was gunned downed in his neighborhood by a white dude named george zimmerman

Oh , no I knew about Trayvon Martin and what happened to him. Urgh I’m getting confused now someone before said it was about his brother who also passed 😂 but he’s called Ryan right? The person who said that before was less than nice so I deleted the comment so I can’t reference it now 😅 but no I know about Trayvon Martin . But didn’t know Frank was referencing him in that line . Again thought it was another rapper who people compared him too . Also when I said it was comedic it was in an endearing way too . Like he was trying to be light about something sad like death . Again wasn’t thinking he was being serious about the comparison in their physical looks. But now it makes more sense . Bloody hell , hate miss understanding moments like this cuz it makes me look so ignorant when I truly do my best to be very present and forward thinking . But I think you understand .

@@FernStone lol dw you’re fine. it’s not expected to be able to understand this on first listen. ryan breaux is his brother and is one of the five in the outro of future free. but the album was made in 2016 and ryan didn’t die till 2020. they were very close but i think futurafree the only time he mentioned on the album

When this album came out it was widely praised as avante grade, which was true, but since, it has really exemplified non-normative relationship issues (as much as it has illustrated normative issues). I think it says a lot that this album can fit so many different genderless perspectives yet still maintain a narrative, even now. The record has aged especially well due to how universally applicable it is, in both the traditional sense and otherwise.
