While I’ve done several stories with the Frankford Arsenal X-10 Progressive Press, I decided it was time for Ultimate Reloader’s Kyle Shields to set up the production version, and to add the new bullet feeder!

Will the 45acp caliber bullet seating work with 45 LC , they aren’t offering a setup for the long colt yet. This will be the final piece to make my X-10 exactly what I wanted, works great with the RCBS powder check lockup die it works flawlessly. Now for a faster method to load primer tube!

I have the X-10 and don't have the bullet feeder yet. I've tried the Lee bullet feeder and didn't really like it much in 22 caliber. I've had several problems with the press so far. Currently, the plate advancing shuttle screw has broken off, so the shell plate doesn't advance. This is likely due to the screw holding the unit is very small and possibly the many issues I've experienced with the primer unit. Primers get cocked and locks up the press, and damages the shell plate gear, etc.

I just bought one of these after having an XL650 for decades (I bought it when they were first released, sold about 5 years ago, still running like new). Overall it's a good machine, but there are a few short-comings: - Wire routing is a mess - power cord is left rear on the toolhead with a short-ish cord that requires it to lay on my benchtop), and right side or right rear for the case hopper requiring a separate AC outlet. - Caliber changes SUCK, especially when you have to change primer sizes (due to primer & swage rod. What is a 5-10 minute job on the Dillon is a 45+ minute job on this machine, even with separate toolhead, powder measure, etc. - The counter-clockwise rotation of the shell plate takes some getting used to, but not a big deal. - The entire machine is coated in so much grease and oil you'll spend hours cleaning everything, but that's a one-time deal. - Not being able to remove a case at the priming station is a huge PITA. - Assembly is simple and well-documented (don't lose that manual! They don't have them on the website (WTH FA ?!?) but will take several evenings... VERY tedious (somebody on KZfaq made a 5 or 6 part series on assembly, spanning several hours). - I have had countless issues with FA's non-existent customer service - I shouldn't even have this machine, but they chose to ignore my repeated emails and calls over a 3 week period while waiting for my "in-stock" order to ship. All that said, it's a great machine FOR THE MONEY (unlike the M-Press, which is a total POS - mine is broken in multiple common well documented ways from other videos going back years and nobody at FA can be reached to do anything about it). There is basically one reason to choose this press over a Dillon: Price, especially when going multi-caliber, the dollar difference is far from trivial. That being said, you pay on the back- end with non-existent customer service (Dillon's is the best in the business) and ridiculously long and convoluted caliber changes. I'm on an insanely tight budget and it took a year or more to save for this. If I had it to do over again and wasn't in some extenuating circumstances, I would have waited another year and got the XL750. Hope this helps.

How would you compare this with an 1100 from Dillon it’s obviously half the price for “the same press” or same style and capabilities. I’ve heard it takes a fair amount of tinkering and fine tuning to get the x10 running perfect

I got mine at the end of October and it is the most attention seeking press to get setup I’ve ever had 🤣. I still haven’t completed a usable round but I honestly just got my bullet feeder in last week. I’m thinking of running straight back to my old Dillon 650 and deal with swaging off press when needed. It’s a very interesting press but I’ve had to buy a lot of stuff to fill the 10 stations that I don’t need on a 650/750.

Is there a rifle feeder? Is it more cost effective than the Mr. Bullet Feeder? Will it work on other presses, like the Dillon XL750 ?
@minilogoguy18
@minilogoguy18 Ай бұрын
I doubt it'll work with other presses. I own one of these and there is actually a dedicated hole for the feeder just ahead of the seating die. The press was designed with this feature already planned. The hole in the toolhead has no threads but just the bolt holes for the bushing to mount where teh shuttle slides the bullet under the seating die on the down stroke.

I’ve read and watched a lot of videos on this press and the Dillion 750. I reload 1000-1500rds of bulk ammo a month and another 2-300rds of short and long action stuff. I just can’t justify dropping $1000 plus expensive caliber changes. My lee 6000 with the typical lee tinkering will do 500rds plus an hour for stuff like 9mm and 38spl all for $400 including bullet feeder and can do 100rds plus with my Lyman AA turret and and my rock chucker if I need a single stage and still come in under $1000. I’m not sure about Lyman but both RCBS and Lee have really good customer service. From what I’ve see if you need higher volume then the 750 XL is the way to go. Another problem for us poors is I could never afford the components to feed a 750 xl or X-10 to its potential

I’m having a heck of a time trying to seat my 125 RN blue bullets. They feed perfectly down to the die. I can’t get the seating depth right without jamming up the press. I haven’t got to the bottom of the issue yet but I’m working on it. Honestly I’m looking at just going back to my XL650 and putting this bullet feeder on it lol. I really like the swaging on this press but everything else is extra. I don’t need a powder check on my 650 since it’s literally right in front of my face.

@@kevinbrandt4822on a Dillon double alpha sells a powder thru die for Mr bullet feeder that is just a bit bigger for belling the case mouth for coated lead. Probably doesn't help the x10. Maybe add a M style flaring station before placing and seating.

With free range brass and Hi-Tek coated bullets you can still do 9mm for half the price of even the cheapest ammo found online. My local academy has CCI small pistol and CFE pistol in stock so I'm not paying double price to have it shipped via hazmat. Saying it's not worth reloading is kinda crazy.

I’ve been loading on Dillons since 1992 and this was going to replace my 650. I purchased it late October. At the moment I have buyers remorse but I’m definitely trying to work through it. I just got my bullet feeder setup. If I went with an 1100 it would be running day 1 🤣. This is a very heavy duty press with some weak points and one of the biggest weaknesses IMO is the complexity of getting it to produce out of the box. I’m not throwing in the towel yet though but I honestly have a bit blue envy at this point.

Honestly had nothing but problems with my first x10 after about 6k rounds of 9mm made and a couple hundred 300 blk, and scheels sent me a second machine to replace the first after a bearing blew apart on the left of the machine that advances the plate. Thr hopper also broke. So far not at all impressed with it for 300 blk. Going to attempt to reload 223 next but so far very disappointed with the near 2k worth of plates, and parts I've bought for the machine with multiple top plates and powder droppers. I really wanted to run this with the bullet auto feed but I'm tempted just to ask scheels to take back all this junk.

@@eberhoozen ive loaded another 6k 223 and the primer station went from perfect on 9mm to busting about 1 in 100 primers deadlining the machine untill you remove the primer assembly. Overall, I do not feel like the machine was made to make 5 to 10k a year which is a shame. It seems to offer alot of value when it works, no question. But if I was trying to buy 1 multi caliber press, buy the dillon super 1050 or the latest and greatest. You'll spend double what this x10 will cost you, but its going to be fully supported and a lot less heartache. I really am surprised that @ultimate reloader suggests these with the issues I've had.

That bullet feeder/seater die is too complicated and will cause issues as time goes on... This is all due to a poorly designed powder measure... They should have designed a case-activated powder drop system like Hornady's or RCBS' that could be installed in any station independently, so feeding and seating could be done separately. People could use their existing bullet feeders... I'm using my RCBS powder measure on the 6th station, powder measure on the 7th, feeder on the 8th, seater on the 9th and crimper on the last... That way you can feed pistol, rifle, any kind of bullets without going through a major calibre change exercise...!

I’ve got the lee 6000. I got it for under $350 plus $50 for the lee bullet feeder. It works pretty well typical lee tinkering but once it’s running I can do about 500rds per hour. You can switch rounds in 30min or so but that includes die set up and setting the powder charge. The bushing lock dies work well. I’d rate it an 8 out of 10. I had to contact Lee with a question got an email back the same day. It’s about $100 to switch calibers. If you wanted you could do 3 presses dedicated to a round and still be under what the Dillion or X-10 are
