Personally I think this is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. One of the few songs that can make me cry every time I hear it. The sentiment and delivery is so gorgeous 😭

Holly Johnson, who co-wrote the song, later reminisced: "I always felt like 'The Power of Love' was the record that would save me in this life. There is a biblical aspect to its spirituality and passion; the fact that love is the only thing that matters in the end."

Never put Frankie in a pigeon hole. The band make all sorts of genres of music. I love this one. So beautiful. Listen to the album Welcome to the Pleasure Done, you'll find it all in there. More high energy stuff, some philosophical stuff (War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing, say it again.) And a cover of Bruce Springsteen's Baby We Were Born to Run which, in my opinion is much better than Springsteen's original. They were a great band. Love them. EDIT Bit of trivia for you, there were THREE songs with the same name, The Power of Love, in the charts at the same time! Frankie, Jennifer somebody and the one from the film Back to the Future. Three different songs but all sharing the same name.

'sThanks a lot. Absolute insane song. One of the most emblematic and iconic tracks from the 80's. The melody is so bewitching and the atmosphere and vocals are greatly awesome. I find this song mystic.

Should try Frankie's Two Tribes . Their sound is partly down to Trevor Horn who produced both of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's albums Welcome To The Pleasure Dome and Liverpool and was the founder of ZTT Records . he also produced other great bands and singers such as Propaganda , Simple Minds , ABC , Pet Shop Boys , Seal .

You can thank Trevor Horn backing vocals, bass guitar. J. J. Jeczalik keyboards, programming, software. Anne Dudley keyboards, string arrangement on "The Power of Love". My favourite of their songs! Funnily enough the first time I heard this was a remix of it from a compilation CD from 2000 of club hits...was quite surprised to hear the original and it's slowed tempo!

My first concert ever was FGTH at Paris Bercy in 1985 at the age of 14 yo. And then, I started singing in the living room, speakers loud, doing some impersonations of Holly Johnson over "Welcome to the Pleasure Dome double vynil and enjoyed it so much that I decided to become a rock star. Surprinsingly, my parents didn't totally see the things the same way I did. Nice to see you back , Derek.

This was released not long before Xmas, so the record company came up with this video, aiming for the Xmas number 1, usually the biggest selling single of the year. I worked! This was their third huge number 1, out of 3 singles released! If you haven't done' Two Tribes', their second single, you should give it a listen. The big thing with Frankie is that they were openly, in your face, gay. It may not seem like a big thing nowadays but it was a HUGE thing back then. It wasn't thought possible for people to be so openly gay and still be massively successful in the mainstream. Frankie, Culture Club and Bronski Beat, helped change that perception. :)

A big hit at Christmas didn't stand a chance against the biggest selling record of all time. FGTH were a diverse band Relax was a way to get noticed and ZTT the promotor did a great job. In fighting led to the demise of the band but l can still see the dance floor at Heaven bouncing along to them.

I see a problem here . Love your reactions but here you expected 80's synths dance beats etc but this , yes even FGTH , was a Xmas target release . Same as East 17 English rap then go for a Xmas no 1 . It's pure marketing bollocks and diminished the groups credibility
