Before I published my Frankie Hill video, I reached out to him with some questions. He didn't see my message, but he saw the video, and we finally got in touch. Here are the answers to the questions I had, and some clarification on topics in the last video.

Thanks for your initial and follow-up videos on Frankie! I was skating in the late 80's and early 90's and he was a big influence. His spotlight in both Public Domain and Propoganda was epic. Also, I'm really enjoying your own channel. I only discovered it a few days ago and can't stop watching.

Loved seeing Frankie on his board every day in High School. Back in the day when a lot of us had really skinny decks a little wider than a 2 x 4 board and made of molded plastic. I would be waiting for the bus and he would be ripping it up and down the street. I would always look up to him as another short skinny kid who was trying to do something with his life.

Frankie's skating inspired me so much during the early 90s. His style along with the music of the time was straight up fuel! You would get up, get out, and try killing everything in sight. Frankie Hill is definately an icon. Much respect.

I know this video is old, but if Frankie happens to see this, I hope he realizes how much of an influence he has had on skating, and street skating in general. I remember first seeing Ban This and my jaw was on the floor. I couldn’t even comprehend what tricks he was doing. Frankie was the king of going big at the time. It sucks he had such a hard time. I know all about it as well. I had some really hard times and quit skating. I’m 45 year old, former shop sponsored skater. And really miss the old days. I have been thinking about coming back to skating, but I have some health issues. Been watching a lot of videos about Frankie Hill and his journey. I wish him all the best, and he should know, he’s one of the best that ever did it. Dude needs an award and more recognition for his contributions to skateboarding. Do your home work kids, go watch Ban This!

If you're health problems aren't too bad, you could at least push around and do some manuals, etc. I skated back in the 80s. I had a ankle injury that made me think my skating days were done. And they were for about 20 years, but, I started up again this past spring and the ankle is doing fine. I'm basically just skating flatland though. Just saying that even if you can't do what you could when you were younger, it can still be fun. For example for me, learning to skate switch is even enough to keep me busy. Back then, people mostly didn't do switch due to the shape of the boards being more unidirectional.

Back then, there were only a handful of skate companies. So being pro was very rare. We all wondered why he wasn't pro earlier. He definitely had the skills. He was actually innovating the sport years before he finally did go pro. I think he had alot of haters because he was so good.

I know what that whole movie thing was like actually. I was a nerdy punk, metal, alternative long haired weirdo in school. Stephen King shot a movie in the city I was living in at the time (Sometimes They Come Back) and visited my school. He picked some interesting looking kids from my school to be background and extras in the film. Myself for being alt and different. I went from oddball weirdo to popular over night and instead of being an outcast I was loved and excepted for the first time in my lifetime.

Hey RadRat! I got a great video idea for you! It’s pretty easy to reach out to Keelan Dadd on instagram. He answers DMs. You could maybe do a little episode on his career and what he’s up to these days. He could maybe also clarify some things regarding the Steven Fernandez incident. I know it’s kind of different, and maybe controversial, but it would be great to see as he is an incredible skateboarder and has been very low key since that shit happened. Thanks!! I can’t believe you did these “retro rippers” and yet never did one on the guy I always felt had almost as big an influence on late 80’s street skating as Naz & Gonz & certainly more than Frankie Hill ... Matt Hensley. Pretty sure Hensley was kickflipping gaps back in the 80’s, certainly by 1990. He did 1 of the 1st frontside flips ever caught on film even, in Hokus Pokus if I recall. As a kid in the 80s Hensley and that H-Street team were THE guys who influenced me to skate street. My mates & I all 1st saw Natas & Gonz & they inspired us to ride street but it wasn’t really until we saw Shackle Me Not that we really got excited. I mean, you talk about big gaps but Jeff Pettit & Ray Simmonds, Ron Allen, Hensley were all doing that shit back in ‘87-‘88 & the street sections of Shackle Me Not cack all over those snippets in Public Domain, which came out about the same time.

I was bullied efffectively out of high school in 1995 because I was a skater more or less. Aka a f*gg** according to 90% of my peers. It was crazy. I had to drop out and homeschool myself. Oh well. More time to skate and less bullshit to deal with. I think skating was at a really low ebb in terms of popularity when I started. I guess I take a bit of pride in that.

Sucks that Frankie injured his knee like that. It's too bad that it took so long for him to be able to get the surgery. Every other developed country has universal health care except the US. We need Medicare for All, and we need it now. Seems like Powell didn't support him very much and basically just threw him under the bus. I guess it was fine when he was helping them make money, but, a different story when he got hurt.
