Plenty of people had that inspiration. Music evolves from other music. He definitely wasnt an inventor of rock and roll. It was a variety of things, no single person. R&B singers. Boogie woogie pianists, blues guitarists, ragtime pianists and orchestras, etc all led to the creation of rock and roll and doo wop in the 1950s. And it was not one sole color of person either. It was everybody. That's what is beautiful about music

My Dad passed away in 1991 at 82 years young. I'm 71 now already. And I still remember him raving to me many times reminiscing about how much he loved dancing to Duke Ellington, the Dorsey Brothers, Count Basie, and especially Cab Calloway at the original Palais Royale in Toronto, Canada in the 1930s before he got married.. Great stuff.

I was born in 1991! 😃 And I love Cab! I remember I saw him for the first time when I was a kid in the movie "Blues Brothers". I had no idea who he was, and I remember I thought: "Wow, this old man has a great voice and dances like a young one! What an incredible energy! " Lol. I'm envying my great-grandparents for having lived these years of beautiful music! I'd like to live in America just for it! Thanks for having shared your story, sir! Hugs from Italy!

@@krabkrabby Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I missed that era also, by about 10 or 15 years. But at least we have recordings and videos to enjoy and imagine what it may have been like. As with today, not all was roses and good times back then, but at least there were some things like this to enjoy.

Remarkable footage and sounds from a now distant bygone era of American life. Cab was and will remain forever a legendary icon. Now look closely and you'll see an uncredited young and gorgeous Lena Horne towards the end at the Cotton Club who herself would became an American legend and black icon in the second half of the 20th Century. RIP to all these performers.

I've been obsessed with Cab Calloway since I was a kid. I got to see him live just a few years before he died. It was my 20th birthday and I was the youngest person in the audience by about 40 years. He was still an incredibly dynamic performer and could still shake it! What a thrill to see a bona fide legend who'd been making music for almost fifty years before I was even born!

This is one extremely good transfer from film to video to digital quality music clip now a music video, an excellent and historical foundation into to the swing music that became popular during WWII, and eventually gave US Rock and Roll. More important is the fact modern music was created by Black Americans and this 1935 music clip is the best example of a history fact.

I think it's universally accepted the influence we have had on the music industry. It didn't end at rock and roll either. Rap has gone on to inspire the last 40+ years of the music industry. You can look to every genre of music and almost every time you will see a black person at the highest peak. Whether it was Cab Calloway or Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Prince, Rick James, Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr, 2Pac, Hendrix. They are all pioneers who would leave their mark on music forever and are all considered the best in their respected genres.

And I have absolutely no idea what happened to us.. I do know that white people are more interested in this particular kind of black American music then the younger black generation today.. I mean, if you go on KZfaq and look at Lindy Hop competitions, All you'll see are white people. And I'm talking about internationally. France, sweden, finland, the uk, all over the place. They're doing all of these great black American classic jazz dances, Meanwhile, young black people. We don't care, it's very sad.

5:56 - I recently bought myself a suit like that; an original 1930s, complete with Rolled brim jazz fedora hat. Sometimes I'll go out to a nice part of London, wearing it. Yes, people steer as if I'm odd, but I really don't care. I love the fashion of that era. I might go to Ronnie Scott's in it.

Cabell Calloway. A cool cat, from way back, who was hep, before it was hip.😄 Check out his autobiography published in 1976, Of Minnie the Moocher and Me. It's full of black history in the entertainment world and that era of the 1930s and 40s. A good read. 👍

At 6:55 - 18 year old Lena Horne is dancing at the right of the screen with a man whose back is to the camera.. At 7:23- she is dancing near right center, wearing a dark dress with white trim around the collar. But you'd better not blink.
