it's weird, how we empathize with the situation, taking to me what the person is feeling. And I can't say that to anyone because it would seem presumptuous of me, but I feel the anger, sadness or joy as if it were my own. For example, a friend lost her daughter, I have never lost a son or met someone who has, but based on what I know of her, I was able to help with advice and words of comfort. On the other hand, that ended with me too, the pain of seeing her sad was such that it hit me in a way that was difficult to deal with.

It reminds of that time not so long ago when my ENTP friend nearly cried because he wanted every day to be different yet all his days are the same. [and it wasn't too easy to convince him that instead of making "every day different" he should just build a more joyfull routine]
@harmreductionman4474
@harmreductionman4474 Жыл бұрын
As an ENTP, it can feel irrationally irritating to simply repeat myself once in a conversation after someone doesn't hear what I said. However, when I have to repeat myself because someone doesn't _understand_ what I said, then it's much more intellectually challenging and therefore more engaging and less frustrating. My partner recently asked me why that was. I'd honestly never thought about it, but I realized that it had a lot of relevance for how I live my life day to day. Whether I'm repeating my point in a conversation or I'm repeating my tasks in a day, how I do something is often more important than what I'm doing. If I say the same thing multiple times, but experiment with different framing, phrasing, framing, tone, body language, etc., it can even be fun. If I do the same thing for multiple days, but experiment with different techniques, collaborators, timing, etc., it can be similarly fun. So, if your friend is like me, maybe he can make every day different by doing the same things in different ways. This might sound strange, but personally even a really good daily routine filled with things I love will eventually grow stale and feel oppressive. Variety is absolutely critical, even if it's just variety in how I'm working out or how I'm commuting to work.

As an INTJ whose been outwardly successful but have been stuck in an internal struggle of what I really want to do with my life and what I truly want to pursue, I actually got tears in my eyes watching this. My health has been deteriorating lately because of the goals I’ve been working towards but have no love for, so I feel lost. And I find it hard to accept because there’s the stereotype that INTJs have their lives planned 10 years ahead, and actually I do have a 10 year plan, but I’ve never been convinced whether I want to follow it, but at the same time I don’t want to throw everything up until now away, and I don’t know what else I would do either. I'm an INFP and I've always had an issue with confrontation, and I've always avoided conflict like the plague. I've recently come to the realization that I have gotten so accustomed to lying about what I believe or think just to appease the other person and make them think that I agree with them. I do not think that my best self is the person I've let myself develop into. I think there is a balance when it comes to discussing beliefs, thoughts, opinions, and values. So no, I don't believe that removing yourself from the situation is an INFP at their best. Obviously, you need to be respectful of other people's beliefs and understand that other people think differently than you and that what they think or believe isn't bad, but it's better to not be so agreeable. It is not worth the distress that comes from a dissonance between what you say to other people and what you truly think and feel.

Back in college I didn’t even bother showing up for graduation ; i just went to school, got my diploma then moved to the other side of the country for no good reason. Now I’m a few months away from finishing med school and I’m already looking to my plans ahead. Not really too excited about the prospect of graduation still, unlike my peers; I just want to get the diploma then move on to the next big thing. Great video, Frank! I love that you brought this up; not many people talk about how amazing healthy MBTI are. Fully developed MBTI gives me so much joy. I do have a few things to add: I have an ISTP dad and an ESTJ aunt, and there's way more development in them than just gaining control over their dominant function. ISTPs start to care more about what makes others happy and actively enjoy communicating with people and finding things in common to talk about, and they are very patient and calm even while dealing with emotions. My ESTJ aunt has developed inner values that she strongly stands by and while those values may come off as imposition when she tries to suggest them (because of her slight inability to communicate them properly because of her Te) it's still obvious that she is just sharing what she thinks is right and may make life easier for another person. They're also really goofy around loved ones and take management errors more patiently. INFPs as well, I think---solely out of personal experience---that they avoid being too hard on themselves and try to enjoy the moment so they can store it as a meaningful memory. I think I'm participating more than life than simply being a wallflower and trying to exist in an outer world, and try to actually solve problems for my loved ones while understanding their feelings. This might just be a personal thing but I'm taking bluntness and criticism a lot better and there's a zest for doing better and fixing problems rather than chasing for an arbitrary level of perfection, and it's way easier to exist and really invest in real life now.

INFP here, and what you say about perfectionism really hits home. Just today, I was talking with my mom, and she told me that I'm way too hard on myself, something that I have a very hard time not doing... I can only hope that as I gain more life experience I can learn to accept myself for who I am, instead of striving for some abstract manifestation of my ideals then berating myself for not being up to par. Meanwhile, I guess one day at a time? 😅

As INTP it's not hard to understand their feelings, BUT since they're so sensitive, they are really defensive and this will not work in a relationship where you have to communicate and be open to keep the relationship going. I feel like it's like a sinking ship with INFP, the way is only down since they hide so much about themselves. That's why they're so lonely. Anyway, probably healthy INFP can maintain relationship but they really have to learn how others feel and not just focus on their own feelings.

Or conversely being able to recognize when it is worthwhile to confront someone about a real problem. INFPs are very conflict-averse, partly because they spend their lives being told it's always their fault for being too sensitive, when really what's necessary in many cases is fearless communication and action. But that's hard so we'd rather bottle it up and just run mental simulations in our imagination.

So glad to watch your discussion on "developed" ENFPs. In the comments in another video I was slammed by an ENFP hater, when I mentioned the positive traits of my ENFP significant other. I was told that apparently as an INTP I am too naive, clueless and/or stupid to see that a flakey ENFP is going to do "inevitable betrayal" (cue Wash & the dinosaur scene in Firefly). Instead, my SO exhibits the positive traits described here by Frank: mentorship, the ability to know when to stay, creativity, and caring. He absolutely is a chaos-monkey, and he loves new things, new people and he exhibits that in a myriad of ways. He love "authentic" people and he loves learning about people. He is also as steadfast, loyal and committed as they come, with an amazing inner personal "code" that he not only can verbalize, he lives it. While all people are unique, he's a stereotypical adorkable "character" and very much marching to the beat of his own drum. He's a brilliant scientist, but has worn many "hats" over his lifetime. Our NPs positively sing together. So much fun! So much intuitive, creative discussions! His E brings my I out of my comfort zone, in a good way. His Fi speaks beautifully with my Fe. Any type can be well-formed or not. People, such as the hater on the other video, need to understand that MBTI isn't destiny or fate, it isn't one-size-fits-all, that many things contribute to how the MTBI is expressed. Both my ENFP SO and I are poster-children for our types, but we are also more than that.

Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely example of a heathy relationship and how everyone can be more than their type’s stereotype. I’m an ENFP and I have always been loyal and committed in all relationships. I’m currently dating an INFP that has been my bestie for 25 years. I would never hurt him by being flaky or worse. My late husband was an ISTJ and we were so complimentary. I worry slightly that my INFP BF and I are too similar. But your comment gives me excitement and hope that we can be a good team too.

As an INTP, I am extremely analytical and logical, but contrary to popular belief, I actually have a heart and do care about others. I definitely do have a heightened Fe but do have a problem with thinking about how someone will react prior to me telling them something. I did not even know people did that until my INFJ best friend told me she does that 😂 I am at my worst when I try to use Ti with Fe, that turns into insanity at its core. I use Ti as my dominant function to make connections to things, Ne allows me to have the idea to execute, Si works in the background that helps me remember key details as visual memory, then backed up by Fe to give me a social purpose of doing what I want to do. And thats how I live my life.

As an INTP I think working on improving my ability to communicate certainly helped me in my early to mid 20s particularly when I was first started off as an engineer. During my late 20s as I've progressed into increasingly more complex and complicated programs I've found learning to create/provide structure (something you won't find in my life at home) for both myself and especially my colleagues (who are less likely to revel/feel comfortable in the chaos that comes with trying to manage/solve problems in a complex/complicated environment) is increasingly important to both my teams and my own success. Now in my early 30s it's increasingly about providing technical leadership mentoring my colleagues on the thought processes that help to move towards finding and implementing a solution to the many complex problems that have been given to my team to manage and solve.

INFJ. Being a product development chemist in my youth, I fully bought the INTJ label...Until several people started telling me that my sharing my patentable ideas (only with people inside my company, of course) before protecting them, and encouraging others to do their best even at potential cost to me, wasn't wise. I actually tried to follow their recommendations for a few weeks as it was 3+ people saying the same thing so I figured it may have merit. Ooooh noooo! (To quote Mr. Bill.) I was less happy, couldn't envision the future (and any needed backup plans, etc.) as far ahead, and my productivity suffered. INFJ. And I can give worthwhile advice on things I haven't experienced because that advice follows a few patterns (at least when given to humans). As an older/mature INFJ I also listen to my advice myself which I think I leaned more into even earlier once I realized I was INFJ. I love multi-benefitting...where you aren't just giving of yourself but also finding opportunities to help others where it doesn't cost more than an additional 10% effort.

The social aspect of the ENTP is real. Not uncommon for less developed ENTPs to be in denial about their social competence bc they wanna be seen as “Intellectual” and/or priorities what they believe intelligence is. This will lead them to believe they are introverted. I have heard all my life how charming I am, even as a child and that my presence is very noticeable, so to speak, lol 😅 Still I didn’t believe it and was like “nah man, I’m introverted”. Then as I got older I realised that my biggest natural talent was my social abilities, Witt and charm. It had been so obvs, but never did I believe it was true 😂 suddenly it was like, everything made sense, like why I “accidentally” end up in the centre of attention 24/7 without effort. I would def say I got this from my ESFP dad, he is the exact same.

This was excellent. These past 2 weeks is peak youtube. Still have a lot to catch up on, but the past 6 videos are among the best videos you've ever done in my opinion. And, yes, even with your INFJ mindreader powers, I still have to point out I'm saying my opinion, since I'm always thinking of others opinions such as how I just looked up what people considered the best Shark Tank inventions to mention how I would generally prefer one of those unless it was the audience's opinion that robotic finger invention brought more entertainment drama to the show, boosting the views to keep Shark Tank going so I could see what inventions people deemed the best, so then I could use their opinions for Christmas gifts. I'm just kidding. Even if it might be redundant, using "my opinion" helps with social cohesion (thanks for that word, Frank!) giving a more personalized gentle touch to avoid coming across as arrogant. Pardon me. I mean I think using "my opinion"...you know what got this in my head? You know how there's the response to intuitive generalities where people get their feelings hurt and say "but I'm not like that!"? If not, then you know one person because I get my feelings hurt where sometimes if people don't point out they're speaking in general, I will be beating myself up thinking the person is talking about me, and that might be how people feel when they point out that people are just giving their opinions where that confused me since if we're clearly not talking about observable facts like you are wearing a red shirt, who else's opinion would it be? But, if it helps make me more approachable, then I hope it helps with the feeling aspect because no function feeling, thinking, intuition, or sensing is better than one another. Although, they have to all be used well. That's why it's helpful to have someone we believe is of good will to help us learn what's best way to use them, and that's why your opinion on What makes the 16 Personalties are like at their best is so meaningful. Also, I can't process these Sunday lesson videos so quickly like people here so I have to just ramble with hopefully something that's at the very least entertaining because it doesn't click until later on in the week, but I can tell you what makes logical sense and aligns with Meyers and Briggs, and everything you said sounds on the money! Reasoning; information/levity pacing; visually pleasant; charming delivery; authentic/personable...check check check check check...on the money! Or maybe I can, Frank, but I'm like a dog chasing cars and don't want know what I do if I catch it, and now thinking that if I did understand it well, then I can focus on the aspect of my delivery. I think that might tie into not processing things quickly or maybe I process them so quickly that I don't think about that feeling aspect so it goes through one ear and the out the other and that's why I get confused with certain things I'm saying when I think I'm being entertaining but it can come across not so cool or attractive. I was just listening to a stream with an ESTP ranting and being really aggressive, and I thought he was hilarious! I thought this guy "rocks!" and...then I read the comments about him being rude and, even though it was funny, and I think he was right, it might have only helped the choir in a "preaching to the choir" way of boosting people's morale, which I think is important, but it might not win hearts and minds and maybe push people further away where maybe we should be our best selves and take the blows for something greater. But then I never know because then sometimes that...well, it's like your last 16 Personalties skit with the ESTP smacking his enemy and then being over it to be friendly, and maybe that would have won the hearts in minds. I get confused all the time when I think "oh no, was I mean?!!" or "did I go to far!" Or "was I being a jerk!" and I wasn't and the people were happy. So...I don't know if this was helpful! Again, it was excellent and I...I lost my train of thought but I think this, your sensing vs thinking, your what are the 16 personalities as villains...oh by the way, I got that Beauty and the Beast Gaston song on my phone and I didn't even get past the opening because it sounded so good! And I did that before watching it on youtube one year! I forgot about that! But then I finally get to the talking I forget dishes or candle or dresser and I check out. Your "If things were people" helped me appreciate personification. That was something about that, well, my favorite Disney movie as a kid was Aladdin. I could probably sing songs by heart right now but...I don't think it holds up like Beauty and the Beast is probably much better but I think in retrospect I prefer Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tarzan, but I could not get into the talking gargoyles and talking animals...and I loved Nsync as a kid too but...I didn't like personification and is that Fi Ne thing tendency for interest in talking animals? With reading into the feelings? I'm not knocking it. All functions are equal, and I used to think that we could tell people we could think incorrectly but we can't tell people what they feel, but what if we do feel wrong about things? Heck, I look to other people to know what to feel and would ask and want to know how I should feel about things so that didn't make sense! I actually want to look up if people like Shark Tank! Because I was going to say I like that show but then if I saw people didn't, I'd probably go I don't like it either, but I'm liking it for this video! "If Dating Profiles" didn't get that many views and I think that was great and I really liked it! I love that "Guy who invented money!" which I was so happy anytime that number went up. And I forget...if that "If your Dog was an introvert"...I forget if that got a lot of views but I loved that! Oh, that had a talking animal..not the same thing because it's not humans talking with animals so it's like Looney Tunes or SpongeBob...those were talking animals talking to talking animals and if all animals are talking then...I was making that Incredibles reference. haha Maybe this is just a mess, but I hope you and yours have a great rest of your weekend, King Frank James.
