By 1945 FDR was a physical wreck. He had only a few months to live. Indeed his health was secretly one of the reasons why it was decided to skip the normal inaugural pomp and circumstance. Yes, as others have noted, his 12 years in office had worn him down. But he was also a lifelong chain smoker (the equivalent of 3+ packs a day) which surely contributed to his death.

2:35 is the key moment. That's the man who would be President for almost all of that 1945-1949 term,Truman not FDR. Sadly so, because had FDR lived, the world would have been very different for the next four decades. He was young by today's standards too, just 63, and looked like an old man.

Where was Eleanor as in 1940 at the 1944 convention to again help Wallace keep the Vice Presidency. History would have been different. Although Roosevelt personally liked Wallace, the left-leaning VP had been very naïve in his views and actions toward Stalin and the Soviet Union and became somewhat of a security risk. Faced with that and coupled with FDR's frail health, the convention actively sought a replacement VP, knowing that person would likely ascend to the Presidency.

He actually grew the economy by 10% a year consistently and was the only president to do so. That is after adjusting for inflation. The economy grew more under FDR than it did under all the Republican presidents of the last century combined (48 years). Herbert Hoover made the depression longer than it had to be. We didn't bounce back in 1930, we didn't bounce back in 1931, and we didn't bounce back in 1932. Only when we changed our behavior
