Lorenz Peter Elfred Freuchen stood at 6'7" with a peg leg, wore a polar bear fur coat, and had a beast of a beard. He once rode a dogsled 1,000 kilometers across the Greenland ice cap, killed a wolf with his bare hands, and amputated his own gangrenous toes with pliers and no anesthesia. He was an active anti-fascist during WW2, and even escaped a Nazi prison and death warrant during the height of the third reich. Freuchen was an accomplished author, adventurer, lecturer, film consultant, scriptwriter, and the fifth person to win the jackpot on the TV game show The $64,000 Question. He even played the villain in a movie loosely based on his autobiography, the Vagrant Viking, and it went on to won an Oscar. Freuchen was truly a larger than life individual.
