Wonderful in thier own ways. Incredible dancers never been anyone like them since. As for fred not being good looking, what the hell that man was like a butterfly when he danced didnt need to be a hunk. Both of them were my idols even as a child, i couldnt take my eyes of them in old movies on the the tv. Thier timing was something to be cherished. Was watching fred with judy garland in dancing "walk up the avenue" heaven! Dont knock my Fred for not being good looking neither was Sammy Davies but what a talent.

I saw this on TV when I was a little girl in the '70s, and ever since then, I have wished that someday I would get to see it again. I thought it was so funny. If you wanna see the best dance movie ever made check out Stormy Weather. Fred Astaire said so himself that it was the greatest dance routine to ever be put on film and that's coming from one of your idols. So just imagine if racism never existed you with no doubt would say that the Nicholas brothers are the best dancers to ever do it. Because of racism you say Babe Ruth but I say Josh Gibson. It's a shame that the color of a person skin downplays there contributions to American Culture.

Even Astaire and Kelly were impressed (Very!) by the Nicholas Brothers, and freely admitted that the Nicholas Bros. did things they couldn't do, that they 'outclassed' them, dance-wise. I have long appreciated the dancing talents of both Astaire and Kelly, but as far as I know, and as far as other dancers have said, the Nicholas Bros. were at the top, far greater than all other dancers. There are other videos with interviews of many professional dancers that all agree on that.

I would never say one was better than the other. They are both phenomenal, with their own styles. Astaire seemed to defy gravity and float above the ground, and Kelly seemed to push against the earth athletically, almost daring it to hold him. One was apples; the other oranges. Both delicious, but very different, indeed.

Astaire movements are from the hip - his torso hardly moves, while Kelly moves with his whole body. Different method but still wonderful to watch. Makes me want to rent some old time musicals like this - the entertainment value, the talent, the wholesomeness, doesn't compare to today's entertainment which seems to, and often does, push and cross the boundaries of decency.

Wonderful as Gene Kelly was he was the more heavily built of the two and it showed in their performances together. This is fantastic!! What an honor it must have been for the two of them to get to work together, especially for Gene, since Fred was his idol.
