The smog has only just cleared! I have mixed feelings about Fred. I love the fella and the memories of his astonishing working life, and love our industrial history, but in reality industrial Lancashire for many was a tough, difficult grind, with many health problems due to industrial and domestic pollution thrown in for good measure. Being his neighbour must have been an 'interesting' experience! The architect's practice I used to work for employed Fred a number of times on jobs around Bolton but sadly I never got to meet him myself. I would have been proud to shake his hand and get some muck on my office hands 😎🔥👍

Imagine fleeing the police in a steam engine.

Sadly today they would ban it just for the smoke coming out. This is beautiful.

fife fire and rescue at one time used to have the firefighters from each station going out doing the hydrants they used to open it to let out rusty water clean out any mud and then give the cover a coat of yellow paint due to restructuring its now one bloke with a van going round checking the hydrants and the lids dont even get a coat of yellow paint anymore!

As much as I love Fred he was the most selfish man alive that drove his family away.

His first wife maybe had an excuse for divorcing him, but the other ones had no excuse. You don't marry Fred Dibnah and expect to change him into a 'modern man'. Nobody should marry anyone if they're expecting they can change the bits they don't like about them eventually. He was who he was and never pretended to be anything else.
