Have we ever had anyone else like him? The older I get and the more I see what he was trying to accomplish and how meticulous he was, the more I respect and admire him.

There is a little bit of Mr. Rogers in all the people that grew up with him. As surprising as it is, some people weren’t lucky enough to have him in their lives. It is now up to the viewers to be a neighbor to those people and to future generations.

32:06 I love how initially people were laughing, and when mr. rogers said, "I don't think it's the least bit funny", they all shut up and prolly stiffened up like they were in church.

*Please don't think it's funny, when you want the ones you miss. There are lots and lots of people who sometimes feel like this.* When Mister Rogers says it's not funny, it's not funny.

I wish I had a gift of working with children. I've failed too many times. My parents had a lack of patience but I got along with my dad better than my mom. She was all business. One day me and my brother Mark we're all grown up and mom realized she had failed as a mom and she was a perfectionist. She's still here and slot nicer now.

This man showed me that some men don't hate and beat children like my dad did. I watched the neighborhood from the first show in 1968 until age 11 in 1973. My parents hated his gentle, sweet ways calling him mamby-pamby. It seems quite telling considering their abuse. I'm grateful that they allowed me to watch Mr. Rogers on the old black and white in the kitchen; it changed the trajectory of my life. My husband is gentle with children similar to Mr. Rogers--not just like but similar.

(39:21) "Okay we just have time for one more question." Mister Rogers: "Oh no.." XD

I think he said, "oh no" bc he was going to elaborate on his point but was interrupted when she said that.

I am an Australian and Mr Rogers' tv program never aired here. I became more aware of him when seeing the documentary, Will You Will Be My Neighbour and the film, It's A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. I am in awe of him for his devotion to children and deep compassion and thought fullness. He is so inspiring.

Kind of interesting he was speaking at a university back then considering he'd been on the air only 15 years and most of the students probably hadn't watched him.
@greenigirl046 жыл бұрын
They very well could have watched him... A person is in school 12 to 13 yrs if you count kindergarten... Cable wasn't readily available to everyone back then and most young children did watch PBS.
@oldtwinsna83476 жыл бұрын
Think you skipped a generation before this. Most of the graduates would have been 22/23 years old, making them 7/8 years old at the onset; still very much the target audience of Mr. Rogers, and they may have had younger brothers/sisters would watched the show as well. Also, the older faculty members would all know him if they had any children. There weren't many tv stations on back then so it's not like today.

Violence doesn't solve a thing in this world and it's a large part of our society today. As far as things not being easy my adolescence sucked and I was a single parent. Raising a child alone is extremely hard. I've always been made fun of cause of my mental illness.
