Part 18: • Michael Jai White Tell...
Part 20: • Fred Williamson Claims...
--------
Film industry veterans Fred "The Hammer" Williamson and Michael Jai White discussed the ongoing Hollywood writers strike and their experiences in the industry, shedding light on the complex dynamics of film financing, distribution, and racial bias. Notably, they asserted that the influence of black cinema saved Hollywood during a time when the studio systems were declining. They also highlighted the issue of underpayment for black films overseas due to incorrect assumptions about their lack of appeal. Michael Jai White further pointed out that movie titles are often changed for overseas markets making it difficult to track their financial success. Williamson suggested that controlling your own work helps navigate this system, as he would negotiate assertively with international buyers directly.

For everyone biticing about Fred nit caring about the strike, you missed his whole point. Hollyweird shitted on him and alot of black actors in the 70s. His point was that he didn't let that stop him from achieving his goals. Instead of cryingnand complaining, he got off his ass and went overseas and made his own movies. So he has no reason to care because that doesn't resonate with who he is. Which is a hustler.

AGREED and well said.I like how he got off his ass and went over-seas and made movies.I also did the same thing, went over-seas as a civilian contracter ( Iraq,Qatar,Afghanistan and Kuwaitt ) as a mercenary first, then logistics for over 10 yrs, been back in america for 1yr & 5 months.I didn't even want to come back to america,at all.I'd rather hunt down terrorists/insurgents.But,the US military got kicked out of Afghanistan,so the civilian contracters had to bounce too.I was pissed !!! LOL. Been gone for over 10 yrs and america is still a-HOT-MESS !!! LOL. Racist whites are still acting out, doing BS stuff,so glad blacks boxed that &&& up at that water-front.About time-TOO. LOL. NEED to continue to box folks up-TOO.

Physical music distribution was the same. Example: you sign with, lets say Warner brothers here in the USA, they will sign you for Worldwide rights, they will go to each territory worldwide, and sell your contract country by country distribution. They sign you for a million upfront, they would be able to sell and each territory, secure their investment, and have a working capital investment to work your project before your project is released, based on the advances from Warner brothers, world wide territories. Each country has it's own acquisition budget. So that one million, up front can potentially be a $10 million worldwide return, that the artist has no clue, nor truly care. International deals, are done, internationally. Cannes, and all of these international film festivals, are were you make your international connections. But the average actor, singer, rapper is not business minded, and just ish and giggles to get the biggest check of their lives upfront, and will be in the negative interms of the advance monies, and the marking and promotional dollars invested into that act upfront, and throughout the duration of label and artist relationship. Not bad business, but smart business, on the label or film studio side.

No indifference. They’re basically saying become your own boss and you don’t have to worry about stuff like that. You see ppl like Tom cruise don’t have to worry because he is his own boss. Has his own film and production company. People don’t like him because of his religion, but they can’t blackball him from making money because he can make a movie whenever he wants because he is the owner. Same thing with JK Rowling. The trans community is trying to blackball her but they can’t. She created Harry Potter and all the money goes to her because once again, she is the boss and creator. So like they said, being an employee you are at the employers mercy. They pay you what you are not worth and can do anything with your contract, even cancel you. But when you are the owner, the ball is in your court. So this is why they may seem indifferent because they are not employees. They are bosses. It is good to be the boss or owner in any walk of life. You call the shots.

She was sleeping in a car. That Book world is equally as exploitative as Hollywood. So many people get screwed along the way. And never have a chance to make it. @mickymickymike4105 idk if you genuinely understand the damage jk rowling has done to her career. She owns a studio that saw a 74 percent drop in profit and primarily operates on deals shes done with BBC which is a uk based production company. This idea of "doing it yourself" can only get you so far. Look at blaxploitation films and you tell me how many still exist today. These companies have a stronghold over an entire industry and with increasing cost it just isnt all that realistic to do it on your own when most of these large production films have billion dollar budgets. Movies in france dont help people in the US. It is extremely arrogant for him to say this because the industry has evolved tremendously over the past 40 years. the empire strikes back and the phantom menace for example the first one cost 30 million to make and the other cost 115 million respectively. Granted these people do need financial advisors and economist to help them navigate the union contract process because ultimately bad contracts are what ultimately lead to this strike but that doesnt negate the fact that without the union theres no telling what would happen to these people
