I'm glad he addressed the not rushing to buy new parts approach. One of the things I like about Mustie1's videos is that he tries very hard to make due with what he has on hand. There's a certain power to repair/maintenance projects that comes from avoiding raw out of pocket expense when possible. It's also environmental in the sense that we are extracting more utility from these items that took resources to manufacture in the first place. Excellent carb anaylsis and repair!! Cool video!

I really appreciate that you *don’t* immediately buy a new carb for stuff. It allows us to all see that you can indeed bring some of these old parts back to life without replacing them. It really takes the "mystery" out of these parts and kind of teaches us to think through the problem critically and come up with unique solutions to problems and trace back to the actual source of the problems. More importantly, it fits with your motif of reusing and repurposing whenever possible.

What you could do is put in a inline filter in between your parts washer container and your parts washer to make your solvent last a lot longer. When I was in foster care, my foster father was a small aircraft mechanic and that's what he did to his parts washer. The solvent or cleaner will last a lot longer before you end up having to change to new cleaner. Just a thought.

Darren, I have a cousin that I worked with, and he used to run to the hardware store every time he needed fasteners. We both worked for a guy that does mechanical demo, and I persuaded him to save bolts from stuff we took apart. He started using cut down tea containers (half gallon), and now he rarely needs to buy stuff since he has them handy. I think my dad used to save ALL the bolts and screws that he disassembled, and now my brothers are going through the stuff that he had saved. My oldest brother will probably take some with him when he goes back home. I'm fortunate to be able to get new fasteners from a truck accessory distributor, so I'll not need to save many old ones except the stainless steel ones. I generally like to reuse them as they're to expensive to throw away, and it's not worthwhile to scrap them.
