I have a small Nissan outboard motor that I used as an auxillary motor. I hit a log in the river . Now I can't get it started. I wish that I lived close to Darren. I'd have him to look at it.

I have a 3.5 Johnson that is very similar to this outboard. I call it the egg beater. Thanks for some more great content! Watching this on Monday morning because I was in Epping for the New England Nationals at NED, your neck of the woods!

5 to 6 hundred seems a bit excessive on the value estimate but with the way prices are these days I wouldn't be shocked if that were accurate. I sold an older 20 hp Mercury with electric start that ran like a swiss watch for $650 a few years ago.

I have a 160 JD since new. She is an Animal with the 15.5 horse Kawasaki FB 460 F. Never had a problem other than general maintenance. I'm on my second deck though. JD doesn't stamp them out like they use to. One tough tractor, yes she is worth saving Mustie 1.

FYI, when you put the motor into the water tank something fell into the water from the bottom rear of the motor itself. 33:36

Nice job, a lot of times the plastic water impeller in the leg wears out and they don’t pump enough water. Ask me how I know 😬

i noticed that some british cars with SU carbs have a fuel purge of some sort. when you shut the engine off you will see a bit of gas drip out the bottom. I think you have those lines on your SU carbs

Never can find deals like that on boat gear in my area, even though I'm less than two hours from the Gulf. Everybody wants a fortune for their old not running, not titled boat junk here. Get tons of old lawn mowers, generators and pressure washers though. 9 times out of 10 it's a carb problem and rather than fix it people just dump it on the curb and go buy a new one. I hate how disposable our society has become!

These are great little motors. Made in Japan by Tohatsu. I have the identical Tohatsu one on my little 8 foot dinghy and it planes along at a really good speed. It has never once let me down despite being a late 80s model.

I think it was that carb pilot 5 turns out when it should be tight, not the external fuel connector.. i bet if you put it back on the motor will be fine..

I’ve always associated 2-Cycle fuel as always having a blue tinge to it. Does 2-Cycle fuel have RED tinge in other areas?! The oil additive I’ve always used is Opti-2 for all my lawn and power equipment and every other 2-Cycle oil has turned the gas either blue or grey … is it different for marine engines?

you can downshift unsynchronized gears with double clutching and RPM matching. What you do is you press the clutch then shift into neutral, let the clutch out to synchronize all the gears in the transmission, then press the clutch again and as you shift from second into first gear press the gas pedal slightly at the same time as you let the clutch out to increase engine PRM which increases the transmission RPM's needed to match up for the lower gear ratio versus wheel speed. That is how I drove my original FIAT 500 with fully unsynchronized gear box and later my FIAT 126 with unsynchronized first gear.

32:30, That bottled fuel, definitely works the best for stuff like this, including Generators, especially stuff that's going to sit for a long time. For some reason, I can't use its real name in the comments. The external source, shouldn't it have a cap over it, to prevent dust from getting into it and potentially stop the vacuum leak.

The pulse comes from the extra hole in the carb flange. You can see it clearly. A hole in the flange and a matching hole in the in the mounting surface.

Chickanic says that store-bought premixed fuel is often contaminated with water. She tells people to buy fresh fuel and mix your own. She says that fuel that is stored for a while sucks moisture out of the air.

I bought one of those brand new in about 2001 from Bass Pro Shops. Was about $1200.00 at the time. It ran ok but I sold it a few years later and picked up a twin cylinder 6 hp Evinrude. That single cylinder Merc vibrated so bad you could barely use it. It'd shake the whole boat (12 ft Alumacraft) and rattle your fillings out of your head in thr process. I can easily see how the main jet vibrated loose on that thing. Hated that motor tbh. Taught me a valuable on twins vs single cylinder boat motors. Or any motor for that matter...

I literally just picked up ones of these in my area, unknown condition but the engine turned free and i paid 200$ for it! shifter was locked up so that just needed some TLC and it runs and shifts great now. My fuel selector switch was broken but you can turn it with plyers
